I had similar problems, and tracked down an open circuit near the compressor. Because the body does not move, but your engine does, the relative movements will eventually break the copper wiring where it constantly flexes.
To ensure your compressor clutch is operational, you could jump 12V to it directly with the engine running. Be careful if you do, though, thanks to the serpentine belt being close to your arm, and the exhaust on the other side!
For the no voltage at the relay, you'll have to keep back-tracking to find the culprit...could be rather time consuming. If you give in and let a tech look into it, let them know how far you have gotten, so they don't waste time, and in so doing, charge you more for the diag.

Yeah, it sucks. In my case one of the problems was a leaking schrader valve. So, replace both and have it recharged again.
