Clutch issues!

Hi all,

After getting everything back in, I was testing the clutch (engine isn't running, still on the lift), and I can depress the clutch a few times, then with a loud clunk the pedal hits the floor. I manually push the clutch fork back, the TOB re-engages, then I press the clutch a few times, and again, after a few times pressing it, the pedal hits the floor again (tob disengaged)..

i have the ACT monoloc (Exedy clutch)...

any ideas?? I really don't want to have to drop this transmission again.. I should have tested before I got the darn transfer case and half shafts back on, but I totally forgot. The TOB engages fine - it only pops off after pressing the clutch in a few times.

Thanks!

S.

Bump... I tried seating it again, this time rotating the engine 90 degrees, seating again, repeat, until it was seated all the way around. No difference. It works perfectly for 3-5 presses of the clutch, then POP! It comes off again...

any ideas before I take a plasma cutter to this car? Uh, I mean before I take the transmission off again?

Thanks!

Actually it's looking like the TOB is seated fine in the monoloc - it's the monoloc itself that is coming out of the pressure plate! I can then move the fork with my hand to get it seated back in the pressure plate, but since it isn't gripping the monoloc tight enough, it slips out again after a few pumps..

I released the bearing from the monoloc (as though I was removing the transmission), then reseated it again. Everything pops in like its supposed to, but again, three pumps on the clutch and pop - the monoloc is out of the pressure plate again.

I'm going to drop the transmission and just replace everything - new TOB, clutch, flywheel, monoloc, pressure plate, everything. This Exedy clutch only has about 200 miles on it, but I'm not going to risk having to drop this again.

I want to go push style, but does anyone know of a push style that works with the 6 speed? The AMS is 5-speed only.

Thanks,

S.

With the clutch on the bench maybe try another monoloc or the standard clip.

yea, I was hoping there was some trick or something else to look for before spending 3 hours taking this transmission out. Out of every post I've seen, it's always the TOB not getting in the monoloc - in my case the TOB seats fine in the monoloc - the monoloc itself doesn't stay in the pressure plate, which I thought was nearly impossible (especially on an almost new clutch).

Thanks!
