Synchro's aren't going to really effect how hot the trans gets.
I've driven 5 and 6spds. The 6spds shift very, very nice which is partly why I'm a fan. I come from the Honda world where my GSR and Type R transmissions shifted flawlessly. The 6spd feels a lot closer to those than the 5. A lot.

From how it was explained to me the reason the six speed fails is: heat expands the gears and they hit the case. 6 speed has the same case as the 5 but has an extra gear/parts which equals less room to expand. How does this carbon synchro fix that assuming this is the reason 6 speeds fail?

^^ I'm pretty sure that's not true.

The 6 speed case has cooling fins built into the case. I don't think the 5-speed does.

agreed, the 6 speed is very smooth compared to the 5 (i've owned both evos) and i like how it's slightly notchier also than the s2000's trans.

i've never heard this before. it's heat but it's not expanding the gears to make ocntact with the case

The synchro will not fix the issue of the gear breaking but the Albins stronger gears will. Since the OEM 1-2 synchros and sleeve are not sold individually by Mitsubishi, I think it will be a good item to offer. If we are going to make the synchros, we should probably make all of them and from the best material available for performance use (carbon lined).

If you want to do some light reading - lol, there is a very good article by Hoerbiger that shows direct comparison of performance of carbon synchronizers. (link below) I think the biggest difference you will see is that carbon is less sensitive to fluid choice and performs much better at high RPM shifting. The only down side to carbon is that the synchro can feel a bit notchy in very cold weather when thick MTF is used, but under normal to extreme driving the carbon will outperform brass or sintered every time.

I've also never heard this.

Normal production time for a new part is 4-6 months. If there is enough interest to proceed, the parts should be available later this year.

We have decided to move forward on the EVO 8/9 6 speed carbon synchros and 1-2 sleeve. I will post up a discount code for EVOM pre-orders when they get closer to being finished later this year.

Great news as I just purchased a spare 6 speed trans. Would we send you a transmission to upgrade or do you send us the parts to have a shop install them?

I think it should be the first option. Me for example live in Israel.

UPDATE:
We have finished the 6 speed 1-2 synchro sleeve and will be testing the carbon synchros next month. Hopefully they will be available before the end of the year.
