Cams 500+ Whp Evo Viii
Cams 500+ Whp Evo Viii
Hi: Im planning on putting a microtech on my car and right now have the 264 HKS cams on it. Which cams do you recomend for 500+ whp. Im looking on the jun 272 or piper cam 265 11.5 lift on both in/ex.
Thanks for the advise.

i hear the juns are hard on the valvetrain. Just slap some HKS 272/272 in there and set the sprockets accordingly. Or just leave your 264s in there because theyre already there and look for a good turbo to flow 500whp.
No, no, no, go for the Piper units they are the best in the world at the moment. They will give you amazing spool up if set up right (as little overlap as pos), and they have a more aggressive profile than the others. I would say go for the 12mm ones but that may give you a lumpy idle. HKS cams are **** they are loads out there that are better and they take an age to open compared to the pipers. The duration at 50 thou lift (when the air starts to flow) on the HKS 272s is like 210!!!! Just my opinion but check out http://www.lancerregister.com and ask some of the people on here about them. Or speak to piper themselves on http://www.pipercams.co.uk/ .
Hope this helps Chris.

Thanks! Right now I get full boost at around 4300 to 4500 with a TO3/O4 non ball bearing. Some people said that a higher lift help on spool up faster. I really like the jun cams but don't know to much of it. A person told me that I have to buy the jun cams with the valve springs. Its that true??. I alredy have ferrea springs. What do you guys recommend me???
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Can’t tell you too much about the JUN items but the Piper’s definitely say use their springs and retainers. I think I read on here somewhere about someone installing JUN cams with no springs/retainers and the car never ran right but I can’t remember. I would install them anyway just to be on the safe side.
On the spool up higher lift helps lots! Also you want your builder to make sure that there is as little as possible overlap in the inlet and exhaust cams. This is because with a blown motor (turbo or supercharged) you can get the inlet charge being blown “over” the inlet valve and straight out the still open exhaust valve, thus loosing inlet charge. With no overlap, the exhaust valve is closed when the inlet is open, so better cylinder filling. Also you might want to install a thinner head gasket. This will raise the comp. ratio a little also helping with spool up and tractability in general.

If you go for JUN or Piper cams you should replace your valve springs and retainers. I think the bigger Tomei cams requre this also. The stock springs will allow valve float with high lift or agressively lobed cams at higher RPMs.
The HKS cams seem to be OK with the stock springs - no personal experience, but lot of EvoM members are running them.
I'm still waiting for my new JUN 264s to show up. From what I was able to research, the JUN 264s are more agressive than the HKS 272s.

Piper all the way. Although they are much more expensive and you will need the springs/retainers the spool up should be unreal. Hey chuntington101 which Piper cams would you recomend for ultimate spool-up Low end TQ?
I'm waiting for my microtech rigth now. My question is, if I alredy have the 264 HKS cams and want change to 272 JUN cams, did I have to change my FERREA springs and retainers?? Also advice what other cams should be good for 500+ whp. Is the 264 good enough for that hp????
