Gfs car low boost

So my girlfriend just picked up a 03 evo. She doesn’t have any gauges or anything yet. It’s pretty stock. 108k Miles. Problem is it feels like it has under 10lbs of boost. Runs fine no cel. Was thinking it may be a boost solenoid. Turbo seems good shape. Has pill in the line. Solenoid seems to be hooked up right. Stock recirculating valve. Any other thoughts on this? I can’t use my boost solenoid because mines aftermarket.

Put a gauge on it and measure the boost.

Yeah, without knowing for sure where it's at it could be a number of things making it feel like that.

Test for boost leaks and install a gauge.

If your evo is modded, and hers is stock then it could just feel like it hits only 10psi lol. But the only real way of finding out is by installing a boost gauge or logging your map sensor if you are speed density tuned.

She has some gauges on order. Just waiting for them. Any thoughts on issues besides leak, wastegate, boost controller? Shouldn’t it be around 18-20 pounds stock anyway?

yeah that sounds right for peak boost on a stock evo 8 , but I believe it tapers down to 13-14 up top.

have you done a boost leak test? If not, do not spend any more money until you do a boost leak test. You can make a tester for <$10 from home depot / lowes plumbing stuff and i can guarantee you that you will find leaks that require you spending money on replacement parts. While you have the intake off doing the boost leak test check for turbo shaft play.

Anyone know the size of the intake hose on the turbo so I can make a tester?

Put some hairspray on the pvc to help keep it from popping out.

Car seems fine after the boost gauge install. 16-17 pounds. Car just feels weak compared to mine. But my car has a little more boost compared to hers. Hers is 100% stock. Never drove a stock evo before until a couple weeks ago lol.
