Safe to use high-octane fuel on stock tune?

It's been a while since I touched completely stock roms but I vaguely remember back in the pre modified rom days (circa 2007ish) that the stock ECU WAS able to add timing until it hit knock and would then back off. Many folks turned this feature off since it made tuning inconsistent and not sure if it ever made it into some of the later modified roms that most folks use now.

OT it's not suddenly going to go from Bruce Banner to the hulk so don't do that if you expect that to work.
