Changing Evo 9 Mivec cam gear
Changing Evo 9 Mivec cam gear
Looking at changing my mivec cam gear soon and was wondering if anyone has any tips on how they went about it?
Leave inlet cam in or out?
Timing belt fully off or just loosen it?
Don't want to remove more than what I need to just for changing the cam gear.
Thanks.

Rocker Cover off.
Accessory belt off.
Auto-Tensioner off.
Front timing covers off.
Move to TDC.
Pin the hydraulic tensioner.
As soon as you loosen the tensioner bolt (under intake cam wheel) the whole lot with shift. It'll spring into neutral positions.
Definitely recommend one of those cam-locking installation tools once you've got it all back together. Makes it much easier.
If you've got balance shafts, make sure you time it all correctly.
Make sure you dont over-tension the cambelt system once you're done. It kills oil pumps if you do.
