Need Help! EVO9 Crossmember Issue!

Hello Everyone,

I just swapped in my newly rebuilt 2.0 engine with a 5speed swap on my Evo 9 MR. All mount except my rear mount has been changed to torque solution 5 speed kit. Now the issue is my front crossmember brace w/ the mount is not lining up to the front stop mount on the transmission...(Driver/Passenger/Rear mount has been mounted) Seems like my engine is sticking out too far... I swapped the OEM mount back and still the same issue. Am I missing something here? any help would be appreciated.

idk if anyone else has had this problem but i did,i normally just have the other mounts loose, and jack up on the front or rear on a solid point with a wood block to get it to line up and go in,how far off is it?

Yeah, as noted, loosen all the mounts & keep that jack under the pan w/a wood block. It takes some minor persuading of the engine to get all the holes to properly line up

I would certainly leave the rear trans mount in place as that one is likely the toughest to get to!

There are 2 ways I deal with this, depending on if I have help or not. If I have help, I'll bolt up the center member to the frame and then have a helper torque the motor to line up the mount while I slide the bolt through. If no help I bolt the mount to the trans first (loosely), then tighten the center member down to the chassis.

So first two pictures is aligning it with the brace mount hole. The last two is aligning it with the actual front stop bracket. looks more than 1/2 inch off. Will try to loosen all mount and retry. not taking rear off cause that was a ***** to put on lol.

take off cross member and mount.
install the mount to the crossmember and then install the mount to the tranny mount. Leave bolt loose

start the bolts on the cross member.
if they dont line up, jack the motor up/down to get them to line up.

if they just will not line up... maybe the cross member is bent.
ive had one bent before that wouldnt line up.

Tried and didnt work. if the member is bent it wouldnt line up with the actual cross member bolt for the frame of the car right?

I ended up getting longer bolts for the mount to crossmember. Bolted the mount to to trans, and used the longer bolts to pull the engine to the cross member(while someone else uses a pry bar to shift the engine forward). It's a ****ty way of doing it but it worked for me.

maybe... i mean it could be twisted to the point the bolts on the frame line up but the motor mount wont line up.

when you tried my method... what didnt work.
you couldnt get the frame bolts to line up?

I just installed these mounts, they were very tough.

Ended up needing to use a mill to slot the holes on the transmission mount ~3/8" so that it would line up without an excessive amount of force. cam side mount was left alone, had the stock dogbone in the back.

for the mount you have, I used an engine support bar to grab a bolt on the back of the intake manifold and pitched the motor enough to get that crossmember bolt in, then bolted the crossmember to the chassis.

good luck!

It wont line up. even when i loosen all three motor mount it just moves the whole car up instead of the engine. Im going to try the method mention above and see if that works.

I was thinking about just milling another hole for the front stop bracket. But that'll be the last resort. Can i use a cherry picker instead of a engine support bar?
