What should I know about operating a dyno if I want to rent time?

Looking to get some dyno time scheduled this month hopefully.

What should I know about the operational aspects of a dyno?

I would like to do some power runs but also some steady state type tuning.

I see a lot of videos of people doing tuning on the dyno but little explanation how they are particularly manipulating what is available.

I have had my car on the dyno a few times over the years but never actually done any tuning there.

Thank you as always guys,

Dana

Are you going to be the one actually driving/manipulating the car as well? Or will they provide someone to do that and you just have to focus on tuning?

that's a damn good question, I'm pretty sure they operate it but since im renting it to do my own tuning I would like to know a thing or two just in case.

STM is one of the places, there's a couple more closer too.

usually you will "rent" the dyno with operator.. .i.e. he will manage the dyno. Now, what can you do depends on the dyno itself and what type of ecu you run. On eddy current dynos that have an actual brake you can do steady state tunning. Hell, on some dynos you can even let the dyno communicate with your ecu and it will find the best timing for each point by itself, by doing a timing sweep while the car is on staeady RPM and load.
If you go to a purely accelerative type of dyno (IIRC dynojet is one such system but I can be wrong) then it is just a run, and no steady state measurement..
