Knocking noise and low oil pressure after WOT

Hey everybody,

The other night I did a pull from 3rd to 5th in my evo 8 MR. Thereafter as I got off the freeway, I noticed a knocking noise corresponding to my RPMs and low oil pressure (oil light on and about 5psi). I pulled over and shut the car off. Had a buddy of mine come rescue me and he wanted to have a listen to see if the knocking noise was still there.

We started the car up again and it was fine? No knocking noise and oil pressure was reading normal (no oil light and about 17-20psi). I got the car towed back home and haven’t done much since. Anybody have any idea what went wrong?

Don’t know if this is relevant but my stock turbo has been spewing out smoke on WOTs due to abit of shaftplay. Also past few pulls have been feeling sluggish but i assumed it was a boost leak.

Im hoping it has to do with the turbo cause I have an FP54 green lined up for her. Thinking to drain the oil soon and pray for no metal debris whatsoever. Apart from this, is there anything I should have a look at?

Does it have enough oil in it? Sounds like you're not in for a good time either way.

I would start by cutting the oil filter open carefully to look for metal.
Then inspect the turbo and so on.
