New intense turbo won't go above 23 psi.

Hi I bought a 5656rs and installed it in my Evo 6 2.3 stroker engine. I cannot seem to get it to boost above 23 psi no matter what I do. I am using the intense filtered oil feed line. Megan racing o2 housing and 3" downpipe.
I have tried -
-Swap to known good ecu
-Swap out grimmspeed ebcs to Hallman pro mbc and set it to max setting
-adjusted Iwg75 to full preload tension
-checked for all boost leaks

Any help would be appreciated.

For your boost leak test, are you using target turbo PSI + a couple PSI on top? What's the wastegate spring pressure?

Leak test done at 30 psi. Wastegate spring is 22 psi

Is this logged boost or are you reading off a gauge? I've had a few boost gauges go bad on me and I'm sure you can see the danger there.

During boost leak test we pressurized the system using the shops tire inflator which was its own gauge and will hold the desired pressure.
And I'm logging only 23 psi during the runs, whereas during leak testing the system will hold 30 psi no issues at all.
Truly lost on what to do. This turbo was advertised to do 35 psi.

It sounds like you are at that point where you might want to give the Turbo MFG a call. Let them know what's going on, what you have tried, and see what kind of assistance they can provide.

I have mailed them. Waiting for a response.
Another turbo of the same model has this issue where it will hit 33 psi but taper back down to 25 post 6000 rpm. Mine won't even go that high.

I've got the smaller 5353 on my 2.3+Mivec, no problems here.
Have you verified that the wastegate flapper is sealing well?

How can I test this? It does not rotate by hand once wastegate actuator is installed. What boost are you running?

Also I'm using a 22 psi actuator but getting 14-15 psi at 0% duty cycle.

The wastegate flapper warping is a common problem with my turbo. So when ever I have it off I fill up the wastegate port with Isopropyl alcohol and see if any leaks past the flapper.

I will try this once shop reopens. How do you fix the flapper if warped?

In my case I'd have to replace the entire turbine housing since HKS doesn't sell parts. It's really going to come down to the turbo MFG and what they want to do. Yours looks new so perhaps some kind of free repair/replacement?

Thought I'd update this thread. Intense turbo has been extremely helpful in fixing my turbo under warranty. Now it holds boost right upto redline no issues. Huge shout out to Rick and Cihan at Intense turbo for the amazing support, they really do go above and beyond for their customers.

How much power were you able to push on your 5353rs? Any dyno sheets?
