Hi, Everyone~
I have a question about EBC installation in EVO 5
Is EVO 5/6 3-port installation the same way as EVO 8/9?
This car runs with EVO 9 OEM turbo with an OEM actuator.
I know that EVO 8/9 3-port installation is...
Remove the stock hose (with pills) and use the aftermarket hose directly connect to the below info
Port 1 - Intake
Port 2 - Wastegate
Port 3 - Turbo Compressor
Please advise if anyone knows this is the correct way to install 3-port to EVO 5 or not.
If it's not the way to install it, please share with me how to install it.
Thank you in advance!
This car setup is...
Stock EVO 5 motor
MAP EVO 8/9 Speed Density Kit (Omni 4bar Map Sensor, IAT Sensor, Bung)
Spoolinup SD Harness Plug Cable
Custom 3" Intake with K&N Filter
Greddy ICP's
HKS BOV (No recycling)
EVO 9 OEM Turbo
EVO 9 OEM Internal Actuator
GSC S2 Camshaft
GSC Titanium valve spring and retainer.
JE 85mm Standard Pistons

We drilled and weld the Omni 4bar map sensor and IAT sensor to the intake manifold.
Disconnect the MAF sensor plug and connect the spoolinup SD harness to the MAF connector from ECU and hook up both MAP and IAT sensors.
This car uses stock EVO 5 ECU.
So we had to move pin number 84 to 74 to make the SD work for EVO 5 stock ECU.
I attached the EVO 5 vs EVO 8 ECU Pinout and wire color diagram I make it easy to compare.
The processing that I find out is...
How to do Speed Density for EVO 5 with Stock ECU
1) Needs Spoolinup EVO 8/9 (SD) - EDM/JDM Harness (Factory MAP), GM style IAT Sensor, Extra Bung, Omni 4bar MAP Sensor, STM MAP Sensor Adapter.
2) Use the STM MAP Sensor adapter to weld the Omni map sensor to the intake manifold and weld the IAT sensor right next to it.
3) After welding Connect the MAP & IAT sensor to the Spoolinup SD harness and connect the other side of the Spoolinup harness to the stock MAF sensor plug.
4) Now all you need to do is take out pin# 85 from EVO 5/6 stock ECU and re-connect to pin# 75 (for map sensor signal)
5) Get the EVO 5/6 SD patch and file to activate the EVO 5/6 ECU SD.
6) Tune it!
P.S. The reason you don't have to change or cut spoolinup harness is that the EVO 5/6 stock MAF sensor plug has the IAT sensor signal like EVO 8/9.
Don't need to cut or direct reconnect to stock ECU the Black (Ground) Yellow (Vout) and Green (5v+) wires from the MAP sensor.
Just leave it as is from spoolinup SD harness, because EVO 5/6 has the signal of this wire too.
Also, EVO 5/6 has IAT sensor Power (Red) and Ground (Black) signals.
The problem is somehow the boost won't gain more than 1bar... This we might have to find out any mechanical issues.
We already test the boost leak with a smoke test and there's nothing leaking.
So the only thing I can think of is... either actuator is bad or 3-port solenoid is bad or the wire connection is wrong.
This should be not too hard to find out the issue as long as we test both actuator and MBC then we might find out the issue or what's the problem.
But the main problem is the idle issue...
The idle stay at 1400-1500rpm as soon as the car relearns.
When we put the new map and disconnect the battery for a min and re-connect it, the idle stayed at the target idle rpm, and then it went back up to 1400-1500rpm as soon as the car re-learn.
My tuner tried to tune and make the car idle stable, but it won't fix the problem, so he said we might need another file for it.
Our tuner told me that it's so hard to find out the EVO 5 SD files and patch.
I'm not a tuner, so I don't what file he talking about but someone knows what it is...
Does anyone have the file for EVO 5 ECU SD idle?
We are almost there, but couldn't finish the tune because of the boost issue and idle issue.
So for now, we are going to disconnect the SD harness and switch back the pin, and tune with MAF.
Because we already test the other stock ECU and the idle was totally fine, so as long as we find out the boost issue then we can able to tune with MAF right now...
So please help me if anyone knows about EVO 5 SD with Stock ECU.
