Quick question - I recently got a Tial QRJ BOV and it makes almost a "barking" noise when the pressure is released, is this normal? Do I need to grease some of the internals before use? Some of my internet searches are a bit unclear.

Hmm, I've not heard of greasing a QRJ, do you have it in the correct orientation? If not, could be why you hear a bit different sound. It's also pretty easy to take a part and inspect/clean if needed.

somewhat unrelated as I didn't have a difference in noise.

I've greased my Tial Q (lithium grease) before as a stopgap while I waited for a new piston to arrive. I had a problem where on track on hard right handers the piston would get stuck partially open causing a surge and sputtering on partial throttle that felt like a fuel issue that took a long time to find the root cause.

It would be a good idea to disassemble the valve and check for any scoring on the piston if you are having issues. Mine was oriented off vertical which may have lead to the failure.
