egt readings

Hey guys just a question- what should my egt temps be? is there a general safe answer to this question? thanks

On normal driving, i range between 1200 - 1400 degrees. WOT.. I hit between 1500 - 1600 degrees.

i get 1200f when cruising. in boost 20psi im at 1400-1450 F. probes in the manifold.

thanks guys- i was just wondering. at crusing speed i am at about 600-700'C which would be about the same as what you guys are saying you are reading. at WOT I am around 800-850'C

Well, this would depend alot on where your sensor is located. If you hav it in the manifold before the turbo 1000'C would be a critical temperature, if you have it after the turbo you need to reduce that at least 100'C and 900'C would be the limit.

It's an ongoing dispute wth all forced induction cars as to where and how accurate the EGT is based on where the probe is.

It's really hard to know and get an accrate reading if it is post turbo. As a general rule, it will be about 100-200 degrees Farenheit cooler than if it were in the manifold. That is just a generalization though. That's why it's best to be in the collector of the manifold. Next best would be in the runner of the manifold for the hottest cylinder.

If you are pre-turbo, 900-1000 degrees celcius is getting dangerous and 1500-1600 farenheit is pretty up there too.
