Having some trouble

This morning I jump into the Evo and leave for the doctor's office. After leaving the Doctor's I noticed the Evo was idling high as hell (1400rpm) but was completely warmed up. I drive it out and on to the street, barely get on it, and the car almost dies on me, then springs right back to life as I back off the throttle. every time I would get to a stop light the car would either start out idling at 800rpm then end up idling at 1400 or it would just idle at 1400rpm the whole time. I got down on it a couple more times and like only 1 time it didn't crap out on me like that.

I checked all the hoses, and they all look fine from where I’m standing

I did NOT have the AC or Defrost on.

I disconnected the battery before I started writing this, maybe re-setting the ECU will help?

Then I will take the pocket logger out, and see if I can come out with anything unusual.

If the pocket logger pulls codes you should have used it before pulling the battery cable. Is your car stock, mildly modified, or heavily modified? It is impossible to help without knowing your situation

No. I have MBC, S-AFC2 (with Buschur settings) Buschur T-Back, Buschur Air filter.

Running with hi-flow cat, and magnaflow muffler

Yeah, I realized after the fact I should have pulled the codes =/

Just got back, it ran fine at first, so I got down on it. At 6000rpm it did it again. It got so bad this time, I barely made it home. I had to pull over and reset the ECU again, only this time it didn't help anything at all. The car could barely get out of first gear, and it would almost die with any throttle. I had to let roll in first at idle to get home. (luckily I was close when it got that bad)

It's pulling lots ignition timing when it does it, according to the pocket logger.

For example:

Time: 0:39.16 - 0:42.54
RPM Timing Throttle
2613 33 17%
2750 36 17%
2687 27 17%
2726 3 17%
2648 -2 17%
2644 -2 17%
2648 -2 17%
2656 -2 19%
2671 -2 22%
2664 -2 24%
2667 -2 25%
2671 -2 27%
2699 -2 27%
2710 -2 27%
2722 -2 27%
2734 -2 27%
2730 -2 27%
2746 -2 27%
2753 -1 23%
2761 -1 20%
2769 35 18%
2761 37 17%
2777 38 16%

*Edit* I went out and checked for a CEL.
P0101: Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem.

I guess the next step is to pull the air filter out, and check the mass air sensor. If I don't see anything physically wrong, what could be the problem, besides just defective?

it happened to me 2-3 times, each time would last 1-2 days. I reset the ECU and it stopped, but could just be coincident.

maybe try to zero out your SAFC2, or which it back to defualt settings. Also check the other settings on the SAFC.

One more thing, the knock count on the S-afc peaked at 11.

So, I don't if that means there was no detonation, or if the S-afc knock sensor is really THAT bad =P

Probably not detonation. If your MAS is hosed up, I have my stock MAS for sale. Not trying to push something in a non "for sale" forum... just putting out the info in case your MAS is hosed up. First thing I would do is check to make sure the MAS wire harness is fully plugged in. If it is NOT lose, then I would pull out the MAS and clean it out good. I have heard of a few people having problems with an oiled gauze type filter mucking up the inside of the MAS and giving strange readings.

Thxs, I may hit you up on that, if I find out that I need a replacement.

I think, i'll also try pulling the s-afc out, wonder if it's acting up, or if there is a loose wire in the patch harness =/

Thx for the tips =)

Yeah, took it apart, and it looks like I got a lot of gunk in it. Not sure if it's some blow by, or from the filter. (it's mostly on the turbo side of the MAF)

Cleaned the MAF with a paper towel, reinstalled and went for a drive.

Evo is running like a beast again =P

No CEL light popped back up. I guess it's time for a Catch can, although I am still not sure where the gunk came from (filter or blow bye)

...hopefully I didn't speak too soon, imma take it out again here inna bit, so we'll see I guess.

Thxs for the help
