Can the stock BOV be modified to be more efficient?

I've heard it looses pressure quite easily, especially between shifts. My understanding is that it is a P.O.S. Is there anyway of making it more efficient (A rubber gourmant, or something?)?

Just get a Type S, it is better in every way. Holds all teh Boost the stock turbo can throw at it, and if set properly, will open under even less vaccum then stock. That is what I have, and teh Stcok BOV is plastic and has no rubber seal, not worth workin on.

You can't add a rubber seal to the stock BOV then?

i was gonna say, are you gonna believe everything you read? yes, a fact may be that some have had problems with their bov, however, some have done tests on it, and found that it holds true. mine held true yesterday running 23 lbs of boost.

and normally i run 20-21

Actually I am keeping teh car at stock boost settings. I have no intentions on buying a boost controller or a chip to increase the car past it's stock 19.5 psi of boost. I guess that teh stock piece should work fine then. BTW I don't need a loud BOV. Glendale police dept. will give you a ticket for anything.

THE STOCK boost contol unit is VERY POOR, it spools VERY slowly and then pulls it back to 16PSI. ATLEAST get a Hallman MBC and ste it to 20PSI, 1st of all you get that SNAP!!!!!!!!!! boost thwack that is otherwise impossible with the stock unit and then you get Solid boost till redline, just like any other normal turbo car.

Sorry to say STOCK is not the way to go with the evo, the topend is so poor yet so correctable it would be a crime otherwise. ATLEAST spend some cash and get a MBC and a SAFCII from BR, those 2 mods ALONE allowed me to run away from a STI, 30WHP accross the board or a 300crank HP Evo, really its like night and day and makes the Evo 10 times more fun to drive not to mention more confident, and is perfectly safe.

a nice option is the Tomei unit, looks just like stock with upgraded spring and nice seals.
