Exclamation Ugly noise in 1st and 2nd!

Today I took the Evo out for a drive and came to the end of my street at a stop sign. After traffic cleared, I put it in first and began to turn out onto the street when I heard a loud squealing noise that sounded like the brake squeal many hear. I shifted to 2nd to see if the noise would remain and it did, so I pulled over and let it idle. I popped the hood to see if there were any visible problems but none found. So, I got back in and drove and everything was fine...What the hell happened? It sounded like those transfer case gone bad sounds but it went away.. Any ideas anyone?

The same happened to me,

I took it to mitsu and they found a pebble logged in my brakes, you may want to check your rotors for scoring, they ended up having to resurface my rotors. If the sound doesnt come back I wouldnt worry about it.

Well I hope it doesn't happen again but I will check the rotors right now. It drove fine for the rest of last night so perhaps it was a pebble..
