Has anyone/Could I?

Im planning on getting a cone intake in the near future. but i have read some of the downsides and one is sucking in hot air. So i was looking at the air box yesterday in my car and was woundering if someone has mounted there cone intake inside the air box? This would keep it sucking in cold air from the same place as before i would think, or would this just restrict the air flow. Thanks for the reply

I have that on my car and I don't think it is the best solution. Part of the lower box has to be removed, so you can still get hot air. I was looking at this intake from Apexi.

It's an induction box that does a better job of keeping the hot air out of the intake. It isn't too $$$ either.

It looks like the battery is moved. I asked my local shop to get more info. I'll post what I find out.

I've done a mod that removes the bottom portion of the Air Box to use a cone filter.. it "can" draw hot air from the bottom.. In practice there's very little difference while driving as long as you retain the "Snorkle portion" if you use a Cone filter..

the APS setup looks promising, it also seems to address the possibility of turbulence causing the MAF to mis-read due to a cone filter being mounted directly on the MAF sensor since its a cold air setup.

With that said.. Upgrading to a cone filter or some other unrestrictive filter Likely WOULD adversly affect the engines Air Fuel Mixture (hence the reason for the HP gains documented on many of these filters) at some levels.. it also sounds pretty cool (I don't particularly care for the sound)

Many have perceived a sensation that the car "lost power" after installing the filter.. I think its actually a perception, if you do go this route, disconnect your battery before you drive the car after the filter.. so it can re-learn its trims and won't feel weird for the first day (giving that perception)

With all of this said.. I have to say with all honesty that you are probably better off using an upgraded panel filter in the stock airbox. It will take quite a bit of upgrades to your engine before the amount of air required is enough to make the stock airbox a restriction.

Of course.. if APS is willing to send me their setup.. I'm more than willing to test it out to see if it has any value over other filter setups.

by the way Ariofighter, you really need to learn to name your topics with some relevance to your question or statement....

Oh, and the APS setup doesn't move the battery, But it does remove the Air box assembly, Intercooler Sprayer bottle (you have to replace it with their bottle if you want to continue to use the sprayer)

Yeah good point.. Its easy to overlook this stuff if your topic isn't specific.. plus it makes it easier for people in the future with similar questions to find the info..

Why not just get the K&N drop-in filter if you still wanna use the box?
