Cam Specs - Hard numbers, really!

Cam Specs - Hard numbers, really!(sticky, no replys)

Before deciding on a set of Piper Rally cams, I did quite a bit of digging into camsaft specs. Here's a quick summary of the hard numbers I pulled together:

HKS 264:
Duration of 264 deg
Duration of 206 deg @ 1mm
Lift of 10.8mm intake / 10.2mm exhaust
Stock valve springs OK

HKS 272:
Duration of 272 deg
Duration of 214 deg @ 1mm
Lift of 10.8mm intake / 10.2mm exhaust
Stock valve springs OK

JUN 264:
Duration of 264 deg
Duration of ___ deg @ 1mm
Lift of 10.5mm
Upgraded valve springs required

JUN 272:
Duration of 272 deg
Duration of 235 deg @ 1mm
Lift of 10.8mm
Upgraded valve springs required

Tomei Poncam:
Duration of 260 deg
Duration of ___ deg @ 1mm
Lift of 10.7mm intake / 10.2mm exhaust
Stock valve springs OK

Tomei Procam:
Duration of 260 deg
Duration of ___ deg @ 1mm
Lift of 11.5mm
Upgraded valve springs required

Piper Ultimate Road cams:
Duration of 265 deg
Duration of 217 deg intake / 211 deg exhaust @ 1mm
Lift of 11.5mm intake / 10.8mm exhaust
Upgraded valve springs required

Piper Rally cams:
Duration of 265 deg
Duration of 217 deg @ 1mm
Lift of 11.5mm
Upgraded valve springs required

Piper Race cams:
Duration of 272 deg
Duration of 224 deg @ 1mm
Lift of 12.0mm
Upgraded valve springs required

If you see only one number above instead of seperate intake and exhaust values, both cams have the same spec.

If you have corrections or additions let me know and I'll update this list. We might even be able to talk a moderator into giving this thread a sticky.

thanks for putting this together - did you happen to come across our stock cam specs or WORKS' 269 specs? i think those would round out the list

Good find. I think everyone knows HKS doesn't use much lift but it's nice to finally know the actual numbers.

Aren't Crower and Comp Cams coming out with cams for the Evo soon?

i just got the hks 264 intake cam spec in front of me.

duration @ 1mm is 206 degress for 264 intake cam.
opens @ 5 degree btdc
max lift @ 110 degrees atdc
closes @ 31 degree abdc

Hi

May I know where did you get the specs for the Jun 272 cams? Mine is set at 110 and 115. does that make the duration 225? confused

Thanks everyone! Keep the updates comming.

I had talked with works directly a few months ago and they didn't want to disclose their exact data to me back then.

I know both Comp and Crower either have released or will be releasing Evo cams; I haven't had time to track down that data.

The figure for the duration on the JUN 272 cams came from www.lancerregiser.com. One of the builders/tuners there had posted that figure.

I didn't have much luck with emails to the companies when originally trying to source this information. I suppose I could try again. Piper was an exception, they provided a spreadsheet with complete specs that covered their entire Evo cam line; it even included specs for their solid lifter cams.

Tomei website states that you don't need upgraded valve springs and retainers for the poncams, but you do need them for the procams. Hope this helps.

How much did you get the Piper cams for and whats a good website to order them from. Im more interested in the Piper race cams.

Thanks - I purchased my Piper cams from Mark at Quantum Racing. The website is www.quantum-racing.com.

Update: Crane Cams and Comp Cams both list 4g63 applications on their website, but nothing Evo specific.

My hks 272 exhaust just came in today. So here is the specs. They also give me the specs for the 264 exhaust specs.

hks 264 exhaust:
duration @1mm: 206*
open: 30* bbdc
close: 4* afdc
max lift: 110* atdc


hks 272 exhaust:
duration @1mm: 214*
open: 34* bbdc
close: 0* (tdc)
max lift: 110* atdc

I believe the stock cam duration is 256. I could be wrong though.

Also, this theard definitely needs to be sticky.

Hi erioshi,

Info on the when the cams opens and close the value would be great, this way we can have a better understanding of the different settings on the cam gears.
