HKS Racing Suction kit Idle probs

Ok i installed it and the problem i am getting here is when i go into first gear my rpms drop from about a 1500-2000 all the way down to th 500's or even stall out. did i do something wrong? could i have a leak perhaps? or is it just my air/fuel ratio is running to rich on air that is causing me to almost stall out in first gear??

any ideas??

thanks

Sounds to me that you may have a leak in your system. Many people experience this problem when they vent the bov to atmosphere. Go back and re tighten all the connections....my.02$ randy

This is the intake right?

Did you disconnect the (-) battery terminal afterwards.
Resetting the ECU is always a good idea with air flow mods.
Just disconnect it for like 1 to 5 minutes then reconnect it.

Good luck!

Take that thing out and put back your ram air intake. You're stalling because there isn't enough air coming in your engine. Either your engine bay is really hot from the weather, or your intake can't suck in enough or leaking for the right mixture....

my penny on dime.

This is a tech thread. As such, it should be posted in the tech forum. Moving it now.

Related to your thread.....

Did you reset the ecu after putting in the HKS?

I've hot the HKS racing Suction intake along with the HKS BOV and the recirq kit. I double checked everything, tightened everything, abd the BOV is vented back to the intake and I too get the occasional stumble and stall.

I wrote HKS directly and expect a response within a week or so.

FYI...I have read all the threads on the HKS SSQ and the posts on VTA...Let me make this clear...I think there is an underlining problem with this setup even with a religious following of the directions.

I will keep you guys posted on the results.

BTW: ED sorry I hijaked your thread

So this does not happen when you are in neutral? That is the way it sounds. So you are saying that when the car is in neutral your idle is at 1500-2000, then as soon as you put it in 1st the idle drops. Am I reading you right? Going from neutral to first should not have anything to do with the intake, but weirder things are known to happen. I would say throw the stock one back on and see if the problem still exists to help isloate between the intakes. I have the HKS RS intake on my car and I have not had one problem with it. This intake is known to lean out the AFR alot and I would recommend getting some sort of tunning done as with all intake mods. You could have missed something in the install also and reinstalling it might solve the problem.

I've had the same problem, but it's only occasionally. It isn't very consistent. And the only mod. I have so far is the HKS RS DD intake

My friend and I have the same mods (catback, flash, etc). Except for this:

I have a cat delete and a 3 in downpipe.

He has an HKS RS Intake.

Fifth gear roll on we are dead even until 5500 RPMs where he pulls on me slowly.

What's that all about? People say the intake doesn't work? Obviously something is different.

It's probably BOV related. I had the greddy type-s installed on my car with the stock air box, and at slow speeds, I'd put the clutch in too fast, and the car would stall or almost stall. Now I have the greddy type-s with the hks rs, and it still does the same thing, so I think you can rule out your intake.

I'm gonna fit the stock BOV back on tonight to see if it makes a difference.

yes it is mostly BOV related, but there is some stumble with just the RS intake because of the air/fuel change. It kind of sucks because I too have the HKS intake and HKS rec BOV, it will drop to about 500 and every once in a while it will stall. Stalled the other day and tripped my CEL. I disconnected the Neg terminal for about a minute and the CEL is gone. other than the stumbling at low speeds with clutch engaged the BOV works great and there is NO leak, holds boost strong up to redline, albeit at a lower PSI because of the ECU reacting to the extra air the Intake brings in. But my dynoflash in 2 weeks will take care of that!!!

No offense but I am looking for something a little less generic. I am aware of that possibility but my question holds excluded variables constant.
