buschur intercooler whine
buschur intercooler whine
i installed the buschur front mount intercooler, and im experiencing a very loud jet-like whining sound coming from my turbo now, is this normal for all you buschur guys out there? im running a buschur stage-3 with 272 cams and walbro fuel pump(18.5 pounds of boost also), also, my pressure wont hold till redline, im dropping to 16-17 by my 7800 redline, is this normal? i was flashed by al for the buschur stage 3, and the car just isnt pulling like it should, ive checked all my connection, but ive heard some of the buschur lower intercooler pipes dont fit right????? and input would be greatly appreciated thanks alot!
Check the discharge pipe (the flanged pipe going from the turbo to the intercooler.. If you can't find a leak in any of your pipes, then its probably that flange.. Almost everyone has difficulty with the flange, especially if you can't get at the bolts easily.
Just so you know, I have similar modifications, the lower boost might be the blowoff valve opening, or just a leak.. But check everything again..

The exhaust note got a bit throatier and a little louder at idle (Likely due to the lower restrictions allowing exhaust to pass through the turbo a little easier)
The turbine got a little louder, but not a loud whine.. not much louder than the open filter always was..

so what should i do? take the pipe off and check the gasket? those bolts are extremely tight, i made sure of it, i even took off the intake and tightened the one bolt with an open ended wrench to make sure it was on there good...but the turbo is definately alot different, a loud whine...i suppose i could take the car to alamo autosports and let steve fix it for me
Yeah, unfortunately if you can get your hands on a swivel, (I think someone mentioned you can remove the starter or its bolts or something like that was in the way) I would take it off again, check the pipe and coupler, make sure its not leaking, put a straightedge on the flange, then put it back on.. tighten down the bolts, but don't overtighten them (Does someone have the torque spec for those bolts on the turbo discharge tube?) they probably need to be torqued down to prevent the flange from becoming distorted.. Unfortunately you'll likely have to replace the gasket, mitsubishi stocks those gaskets at most dealers, I suggest getting a few of them until you get everything sorted out.
Or you can go to alamo and have them look at it and verify everything, its always good to get another set of eyes looking at your work to see if you missed anything.
For what its worth, we got the bolts started and tightened down without a swivel or any special tools, but my friend (Who was assisting me) was the poor soul who did the tightening once the bolts were started since I was working on another portion of the install. I do suspect that since it was difficult to get a wrench or ratchet in there, that we didn't overtighten the bolts which means that we never could have distorted the flange.
