Do you gain any power from it?

I just got a UTEC, and I want to run a VTA BOV, would I still need something like this?

I have the blowthrough.. It really depends on what you want from your car.. Its expensive, but a good solution from a performance standpoint.. But if your only interested in running a VTA BOV, HKS makes something called the EIDS which might help with the stock MAF sensor.

Malibujack,

Can a UTEC do the same thing as the EIDS, or would I need to get both (I actually already have the UTEC)?

EIDS does not work well with the evo. My freind has the AFR with that fucntion and he says it is crap!!! Running VTA may sound kool , but if you wanna run it like that there are many options out there. Such as turbosmart and there 60(recir)/40Vta split. There are a few more but thats the only one I can think of at this time.

I just love the high pitched sound of the HKS BOV, does the turbo smart one sound similar?

You again!

I have one final question that has yet to be answered...

IF I do go VTA, will a UTEC be able to make the car run properly?

The UTEC doesn't appear to have the feature that "catches" and adjusts the MAF frequency at Idle.. Though I haven't looked at it, I do prefer to recirculate so it was never an issue...

the S-AFC's method of preventing the stalling doesn't work simply because its not fast enough to detect and smooth it, the anti-stall feature never worked for the EVO (or Eclipse or so I've been told) for a BOV, likely because of the amount of correction required to prevent a super-rich condition due to bad metering.

The more I ponder how this works, the more frustrated I get with myself.. you raise RPM, you have more air and higher MAF, higher maf=more fuel.. Now you vent, same MAF, but less air and more fuel.. Bog and potential stall until the MAF signal drops to the level at idle.. so your device would have to catch the venting and quickly adjust the MAF frequency to prevent extra fuel from going into the engine..

if EIDS works this way, then give it a try.. I don't know if the UTEC is capable of catching this scenario.

Any way to move the air meter after the BOV, or eliminate it completely (speed density) eliminates this problem simply because its measuring the air thats going into the intake manifold no matter what.. the MAF in the location it is stock, will occasionally get tricked by airflow anomolies such as changing your MAF pipe, affecting the air volume/speed, or venting, where the air measured, never makes it to the engine.
