i know it seems ctazy, but i had a very similar issue and that was the problem. above 5k the snorkel would be pused up to the hood and cut off air flow to the motor.

the clips are fine....i just took the cover off the air filter and checked for anything abnormal and reseated it and replaced the clips just to be extra sure.

just solve the problem by getting an exhaust system to free up more air......

not the airbox snaps - the snorkel retainer snaps that hold it down just in front of the snorkel opening.

Something is probably cutting off the airflow to the engine.. or the BOV is leaking massively (Missing vacuum line to the DV or the DV is installed backwards..)

I suggest taking off the snorkle that goes into the airbox, not the cover, for short period of time to see if that is moving or blocking airflow..

Anyway, I had a massive misfire for awhile on my car, replacing the plugs got rid of it.. However the symptom in my case wasn't anywhere near as predictable..

You could be experiencing fuel cut due to overrunning the MAF sensor, but that doesnt happen very often with the stock airbox still on the car..

Do you have a boost gauge on the car? I wonder if the boost is dropping off severely or the engine is just cutting out..

Yes I do have a boost guage...sometimes it reach full boost...but only before the weird engine cutoff thing starts happening.

If I was getting a bad misfire from fouled plugs or something would I be getting a CEL with a misfire code?

oh yeah the dealership said that all the sensors were reading the way they should be too...they had the computer hooked up to it..even when they were driving. That's why he thought bad ground or wastegate syllanoid problems

If it was a boost solenoid problem it would be either on or off.. which means your boost would go up or drop down, but you would see it fluctuate on your gauge.. you will not get a misfire code from fouled plugs.. boost induced misfire is basically cylinder pressure "blowing out" the spark.. It makes the car feel like its sluggish and losing power.. Fuel cut is a harsh "shut down" of fuel to the engine.. its not just a sensation of stumbling and slow acceleration.
