Wastegates

ok turbo guru's i have the HKS 2.68" DP, i want to go with a bigger turbo, but here's my delima:

1. keep it internally gated and don't gain the 30-40 hp

2. go external and figure out a way to not cut into my $350 DP...
i don't want to have anything radical with the wastegate dump tubes..

any suggestions?

Matt

sell me your dp for 200 and buy a 3 inch ... lol

depending on what kind of power you want and how you want your set up, you have several options but the first problem is 2.68 isn't going to cut it for a larger turbo...

you can either run a ext. wastegate and have it dump to atmosphere, but this is extremely loud and not legal. You can re route it into the DP, or you can go internal. Going internal can still yield good gains but will cause some slight turbulance with air exiting the turbine. Also, running an internal wastegate can casue another problem. Boost creep, this is when there isn't enough flow from the wastegate to exhaust and even with the valve open the car still builds boost. So with all that said its pretty much how you want to go, ext wastegates are typically expensive, and require fabfrication....

well i was looking at an upgrade as far as a 20g/t67.. not a big GT series turbo... 450whp is my goal..

i doubt that the uprade is only perceived from my DP.. i belive that the HKS unit can be used to a sufficient point...

it's titanium, not just anybody can weld on it..

Perhaps you should have specified that.

I'd get a new dp, a 3" and weld er in.

Titanium HKS DP? Are you really sure? I've never seen or heard of them making one?
