what do I need for 264/272

I'm about to buy some HKS 264/272 cams and was wondering what I will need. I have a full TB exhaust, HKS intake, 255hp pump, 20psi. and RVM I/C pipes. What I really need to know is will I need injectors and cam gears along with the cams. Thanks

You need ARP Headstuds for sure. Cam gear nice for fine tuning but not needed. The injectors, you can wait if you need to save some money and get the ARP Headstuds
I would say to update your injectors when you can. I notice on my Apex Commander that my stock injectors are running around 97% at WOT. This will be my next upgrade Im going to get Denso 660.

I have HKS 272/272 cams, UR cam gears , stock injectors and everything runs great.

I think you meant to say HEADSTUDS instead of HEADBOLTS.

well, a picture would be worth a thousand words here verse me trying to describe it.

Studs are proven to hold better than bolts. ARP the most common manufacturer of fasteners in the high performance industry.

Here is a link to their website

Is it really neccesary to install headstuds when doing cams? My 272's are on order as we speak and havent heard a word about doing headstuds at the same time in all the reading ive done.

If you don't plan on raising your boost levels then no, I wouldn't. But if you do they will help prevent blowing a headgasket.

Its just that most people do replace them when they do cams for the fact they are already into the top half of the motor and its relatively cheap insurance for head gasket failure.

No, you don't. But if you plan on raising the boost and want some insurance then YES do it. And why not do it while your doing the cams there right there and ez to get too. Arp Headstuds are priced around $95.00, so for that price its worth $$$$.
If your getting 264 / or 272 that tells me you want more Power, so do them now and save in the long run.

I have all the basic mods up to cams and FMIC. After my FM comes I will be doing 264/264 cams and 720cc injectors and there is no way I would install them without putting in headstuds. For $95 it's almost stupid not to. If money is real tight then don't, but go easy on the car. The headstuds are worth the money espically if it saves a blown headgasket. By the way I plan to boost more than 22 psi.

i am not disagreeing with anyone that headstuds are not worth the cash- since i do not plan to boost any more than 19.5psi i was told by the shop who does the work on my car that they were not a required upgrade, so that is why i did not purchase them. i am going to get them anyway here in a bit.

I have the 264 intake and 272 exhaust, car runs great power in all rpm band.

When I installed the Greddy/Denso 660injectors and 255 Fuel Pump, plus the Buschur SAFC2 settings, I felt the car pulls much harder to redline than before, I definitely felt an HP gains doing the Injectors and Fuel pump upgrade with the SAFC2 Settings

Boosting 20psi to redline without taper and without worries via 91 Pump Gas
