Engine/Fuel Management
Engine/Fuel Management
I've come across some money and I want to get some type of engine/fuel management for my car. I definitely don't want to purchase the AEM EMS, however, because that is way more than what I want to spend. What is a good product that I can pick up that will yield great results, is easy to tune and can be had at an affordable price? Thanks for the input.
That's a fairly tough question, both "easy to tune" and "great results" are both fairly subjective.
If an EMS is too much, but you want alot of flexibility and a "one stop" box to manage all your tuning needs then an XEDE or UTEC piggyback might be the way to go. Both have their advantages, and they will both control boost, fuel and ignition timing.
I've been running an XEDE for about a year now and couldn't be happier. The standard maps provided by Vishnu provide lots of performance and are being used by alot of EvoM owners. If you want more performance you can cuustom tune you car even further; the software is pretty easy to use and understand. The XEDE also retains all of the OEM ECU safeguards - that is important to me.
From what I understand, the big difference between the UTEC and the XEDE is that when the UTEC takes contol of ignition timing, the ECU looses it's ability to retard timing if there are problems. I believe the UTEC does have it's own knock control and timing retard, though. I believe the UTEC has a much smaller pool of pre-built maps from TurboXS, too. MalibuJack is the EvoM UTEC expert, so I'll leave the details to him.
There are alot of satisfied EvoM members using each of these systems, though.
