Hey ya'll. I need some feedback. I'm thinking about having cams installed in my '03 EVO and the shop that I use tells me it takes 6-7 hours for installation and tuning. Does this sound right?

Not sure about the hours, but a local shop where I live said they could do it in a day. So your ~6hrs fits in there somewhere.

we charge 4 hours for installation of cams....it is possible, although doubtful, the rest of the time will be spent "tuning"....does the shop have a dyno? and more to the point do you have any after market engine management?

Seems like allot of time for tuning and install. I did it myself in about 2 hours. And really what are you going to tune on cams? Cam gears maybe? Do you have a AEM or other flash that can be reprogrammed? If not that is a bunch of BS!

Thanks for the reply. I sure wish some of the others out there can help with some additional info. I would think there has to be a butt-load of owners that has changed out their cams.

Yes, the shop has a Mustang 4 wheel dyno. I've already installed an APEXi D-Jetro, Perrin fuel rail, 720cc injecters, Greddy Profec B Boost controller, Buschur FMIC, Buschur upper intercooler pipe, etc. I was thinking that cams would be the next logical step.

If you are somewhat mechanical you could do them yourself. Here is a great writeup of everything you will have to do.

2 hours from driving in to & out of the garage.......is a bit optimistic for the average person.

It take's about 10 minutes a cam just to get the cam caps off without damaging them.

3 hours is fair, besides if you hurry to do it in 1hr & 59 minutes to set an olympic record & you screw something up, then you'll have to do it again & that will double the time! So take it easy & do it right the 1st time.

First of all i never said that he could do it in 2 hours. I said i did it in 2 hours but i have allot of experience with building engines and i have all the right tools which is a must! I totally agree take your time and do it right the first time there is no sense in rushing yourself. Take your time and make sure everything is ok. Double check everything 2-3 times before buttoning it up.

Thanks Chris. I'm more than a little hesitant to something that I've never done before without the assistance of an expert. What I'm hearing is 6-7 hours is a bunch of B.S. Maybe I should get a quote or two from another shop.

The write up on evomoto is very detailed. When I get mine I think I will give it a try.
