Heh,

It's always good to point out more cost-effective alternatives.

I will say this about Hose techniques, they are exchanging the hose clamps that I got and they have been very responsive and accomodating. That's definitely worth something, but I'll probably go to NAPA next time.

Regarding the MAF, I used brake cleaner per another post I found here and per Zeus' recommendation. In my Audi, I used Isopropyl alcohol and a cotton ball. It didn't help in the Audi though... I've seen people recomment dry contact cleaner as well, you just want to be careful and not damage anything. Apparently our Karmann type MAF is more robust than the hotwire variety (like my Audi was).

Other thoughts on cleaning the MAF?

What is a Karmann type MAF? I am just curious what it is and what the difference between it and the hotwire variety is. Thanks, this has been an informative thread by the way. Thanks.

Be careful using the brake cleaner. Yes, I've used it successfully, but I'm not 100% sure it can cause no damage to the sensor. I will use it again, but I don't want anyone to believe it is 100% risk free until someone smarter than me proves it. I'm using it again on the 20th when I install my manifold, O2 housing, and porting (mostly polishing) my head.

Those stainless steel bolts from the hardware store aren't strong enuf to hold a fence together. They are the weakest bolts ever made, he's better off using some cheap grade 3 bolts that aren't stainless steel.
