The EMS is by far the best mod you can do to your Evo. For one a good tuner will pull crazy power from your car and you will be amazed. If you decide to change your turbo out than you need the EMS anyways, but wow, you already have it. If you like the whole nitrious thing the EMS runs that too. Need a shift light, not anymore because you can use your check engine light for that with the EMS. Do you want great gas mileage? I get 28mpg on the highway and 20 city. Do you want 1.6sec 60ft? With the new software I'm coming off the line at 20psi on the two-step. Without a good tuner you have none of this and a charred engine so if you do it do it right. The drive to Turbotrix is more than worth it. I have not done business with them, but their reputation speaks for itself. Once your car is tuned it is tuned. I have two maps, one for 93 octane and one for 118 octane. The only time you need to retune is when you upgrade. The best thing to do is datalog once a week and send it to your tuner so they can make sure all is well. Make sure you buy the EMS with a wideband so you can tune on the street. Street tuning is where a good tuner can make his money. A dyno does not have the same load as the street so your car will be better tuned on the road. Buy the EMS you will be satisfied. Good luck on your decision.

Dynoflash is not a piggyback ECU but since there is no option for Reflash I chose Piggyback ECU

Just wanted to do a comparison to some of the AEM system vs. the UTEC

Same with the UTEC...

Similar to the UTEC, but not as good in my opinion. You don't have to disable the CEL, but you do add a light that hooks up to the UTEC. The best part is you can do three lights at different rpms. Kinda like a staging system.

Can be done with the UTEC as well...

The UTEC also offers launch control... similar to the two-step reference.

Similar to the UTEC, but not as good in my opinion, again. With the UTEC you get 5 maps and a pass through to switch from. You can tune for both 93 and 118 for both cold and warm weather driving, and still have one more map. The pass through is the best thing though. You can disable the UTEC's features, by simply switching to map 0 and run the stock ECU.

Now granted both systems are good, but it is like women. Some like them one way, and some like them another. I found the UTEC was the best bang for the buck, a great entry level tuner, and still provides the functionality of producing high numbers with limitless mods.

Remeber this is just my .02

My two cents: If you're not going to the turbo kit, engine build and non-daily driver route, buy a UTEC without the Tuner and let it at that. If you are going the distance, buy the AEM, its that simple. Otherwise, KISS principle, buy an AFC2 for all around use.

This is def the truth!! I have the AEM and I wish I did more research before I bought it. It is NOT "plug and play."

AEM if you're gonna race it (alot) ...

For street use I'd get the XEDE since it's
- cheaper
- supports all of your mods
- allows switching between different maps (read: pump gas and race gas)
- user updateable via downloadable maps or can be custom tuned for your exact setup
- very transparent, i.e. car still drives like stock (barring the extra power)

I run the XEDE on my car and I'm very happy with it. I've seen and been in AEM tuned Evos, and they are also very nice, but IMO for the price difference you really don't gain much for street use. As a matter of fact, I'd say that overall I'd pick the XEDE over the AEM anytime just because it is not as difficult to setup and use. Dedicated racing, however, is a whole different ball game and you can fine tune a car (read: squeeze the last couple of percent of performance) better with a full standalone EMS like the AEM.
