which exaust is the best?

Whats the best performing exhaust money can buy. The most expensive one I found is the Greddy Titanium one for about 950. Comparing this Japanese exhuast to Bushur and other American brands the price difference is huge. I assume the high price is due to brand and performance? Got a few questions.

1.Is there any dyno chart comparisons with most popular brands?
2.I plan to get a cat back exaust because I dont want my exhaust to be too loud. How much hp will I lose if I keep my stock cat?

Im not familiar with performance mods so I apologize if I dont make any sense

I would go w/ either Buschur Racing or Helix. They are both excellent quality and fit and finish is perfect (although the Helix looks better b/c it is polished SS). I don't know how loud the Helix is, but if you get the Buschur w/ the MagnaFlow muffler, it isn't much louder than stock. It has a nice grumble to it though.

HOWEVER, if you do go catless, your car will be louder and have a higher pitch to it. If anything, go w/ the Helix hi flow cat from Gruppe-S.

i have the hks carbon ti... very nice sound kinda pricy, before this i had the RMR catback, that thing was light and sounded a little higher pitched than my HKS but not like a little civic or anything... great sound i actually liked it better at first... it was only like 600. with it and the hks intake i dropped 4 10ths off my 1/4 time

oh, as far as with a cat, or without, my exhaust wasn't too much louder, it was loud but not so much that it was annoying... i have a 3" perrin dp, 3" perrin straight pipe, and hks carbon TI... the only difference for me was it got a little higher pitched with the cat in there... you will notice with going to a bigger exhaust less torque at low end and then you have a lot more top end... thats the trade off, but get an intake and a clutch and it helps out a lot... hope this helps

It's your call what type of exhaust you like, Quiet, load, JDM, TI, Low key ect.

But there is a simple rules to follow on every turbocharge car.

3in in Dia. No reductions, No baffels in the muffler.

For fit and finish and just perfect sound take a look at Vishnu, APS and AMS.

I personaly have the APS and really like it the only gripe I have is that the exhaust tip does not go past the bumper.

IMHO

Questions about modifying your Evo belong in a tech forum. The General forum is for questions about the car itself.

I am moving this thread to the Engine/turbo/drivetrain forum.

1.bigger exhaust=less torque. Can you tell by just looking at the muffler size?

2.intake and clutch? You mean install a upgraded clutch?

Thanks

The "best" exhaust is the "least restrictive" exhaust. Nice mandrel bends for good flow are necessary. YOu can make it yourself, if you are so inclined. A muffler shop can fabricate it aswell (with flanges or slip and clamp connectors). You don't need no stinkin' muffler (it adds unnecessary weight and is a "restriction" - the other restriction being the catalytic converter). So a "straight pipe" style exhaust is optimal.

The exhaust should be uniform in diameter from the turbo - back. Or it can be bell shaped (the best) increasing in size toward the rear of the car. Your goal is to promote the most efficient expulsion of exhaust gasses...

Straight pipes!! (you can weld on a muffler "tip" of your choosing)

Hmmm,

So you think the Helix is that loud? I want to get the Helix for the price and perf, but don't want it too loud. I've heard the sound clip, and didn't seem bad, but it's tough to tell. Vendors described it as "medium" loud.

The Helix does have the silencer in case I need it quiet for a short time, but I obviously don't want to drive around with the silencer in there. Is the noise only bad at WOT, if so, I could live with a little noise when driving "carefully", such as near a cop. I already got a ticket for altered exhaust with my Bushur AB (which I beat in court), so I need to show some restraint.

Thanks,
