The EVO VIII vs EVO IX compressor housing
1 Attachment(s)
I saw a pic of the EVO VIII and EVO IX compressor housings side by side dam!! it looks a lot bigger. A larger compressor housing should make the turbo more efficent, when turning up the boost. Well I guess you have to factor in the turbine section too, but it seems to me this turbo has a lil more potential. Maybe I should have waited for the EVO IX. :crap: Here is a pick from the magazine.

There will always be bigger and better, don't sweat it.
Wow, it looks significantly bigger.
interesting I wonder how much more power it is capable of holding, and if its any louder.
Looks like another way to improve the stock turbo! Wonder if we can mate this up to the 10.5, or maybe this turbo comes mated with a 10.5 from the factory.
Just swap it into your 8. Or better yet, convert it to a 20G. That is what I am going to do.
Get me the part number!
You can't see the part number in that picture, and I need that stupid little number =/ |
Watch the best motoring evo IX video. It has graphics and everything with the new turbo the IX is getting compared to the VIII.
Honestly, i'd just get a ball bearing turbo and not waste money on this "10.5 hotside/05 turbo exhaust side" and compressor side stuff. Actually I just bought a Garett GT30 ;) |
Wow, that is a little bigger isn't it? Mmmmnnn....looks like I've got another upgrade to work on.
Man just go all out and get a GT35R :D
for all you that don't know the actual compressor side is not really larger (as in the housing) what is larger is the diffuser channel, it's now a larger trumpet (think french horn) which makes the overall turbo look much larger. this is of course a good thing but things like top end boost are still yet to be determined. one thing is for sure and that's that by this design it will build boost faster which is what they had in mind.
Didnt Buschur dyno them to the same #'s?
Just because they dyno'd at the same numbers stock doesn't mean the efficiency of the new turbo is the same.

correct, we noticed that the factory turbo anywhere above 22psi on our 05 car is just a heat pump. even with our FMIC upgrade, we were still seeing a very hot aircharge (untouchable "cold pipe"). the larger a/r compressor housing should help to keep the temps down under higher boost. these factory mitsu turbos leave me wanting much much more.. i dont want to hurt anyones feelings, but the top end is just boring even on high boost with the factory turbo. The stock EVO 9 turbo does come with the 10.5 Housing. However it has made very little power over the stock 8 turbo. Also it does not hold anymore boost over the stock 8 turbo.
Here is the dyno sheet we did here between the stock 8 and a stock 9. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v662/brjrod/RIGHT.jpg Jarrod Buschur Racing Inc. |
