what spark plugs are you running?

i want to change them out, but was wondering what was better, replace with stock or drop down a heat range, normal mods, TBE, Buschur Intercooler, getting custom Dynoflash, Walbro FP, MBC. Any Ideas?

Drop down one step.

I would suggest staying in the same heat range (7) with those mods. Go get some Copper NGK BPR7ES or Iridium NGK BPR7EIX. If you were running alky and 23-24psi daily, then I'd suggest you get some 8s (BPR8ES/BPR8EIX), but I don't think you need those right now and will run better on the 7s.

thanks guys

I'm running 1.6Bar on the stock Turbo and the BPR8EIX's made a noticeable difference. I don't think I was detonating before but I'm definitely running smoother now.

Hey do the BPR7EIX come pregapped? I have searched and found that some pople say they are gapped to the correct specs while others say they need to be changed. Also I have heard not to use spark plug gapper on iridium plugs, so whats the best way to gap them.... Also what size spark plug socket do I need because I was going to check my stock plugs to see how they looked and the spark plug socket I have didn't fit. Thanks for any help. I didn't want to make a new thread so hopefully someone reads this... Warrtalon are you out there???

You don't re-gap Iridiums, because of their design. You'll break the electrode. They should be gapped already. If you get coppers, you should re-gap them.

I can't remember the spark plug socket size. I think it's 3/4", but it's the larger of the 2 standard sizes. I assume you have the smaller one (5/16")? Both sizes came in my little $30 toolset.

You're the best, thanks for your help!

Too hot of a spark plug could possibly cause preigniton, which is distinctly different than detonation.

^^^^ 8 range sparkplug is COLDER than 7 duuuuhhhh

evotino Oct 15, 2005 02:37 PM

The socket size is 13/16". I run Denso Iw24 plugs, which are 1 step cooler. You may have to change them more often, say every 10,000 miles, but if you run the car hard the cooler plug will help keep cylinder temps down.

Just bought the BPR7EIX, checked the gap at the store. They came pre-gapped at .027. Will probably installed them tonight. They are about $7 a piece.

I can't believe you got lure in  Oh well lessons learn.

Pepe Boys. Napa, Murray carry NGK well at least the one here does

ev08buoy Nov 15, 2005 10:12 AM

LoL.. i know...

<--- feeling stupid..

Yah I know Pep Boys are suppose to carry them but they don't.. I've called all the automotive stores around me and they don't have them.. so I got fed up and ordered them from lancershop

If you tell them you have an Evo.. they won't say anything about NGK's..

I usually tell them I'm looking for plugs on a 1990 GSX turbo Eclipse and then NGK comes up....
