50Trim vs Garret30
 
In my search and plan to install a bolt-on turbo kit whilst keeping a stock block and using regular 95-Octane fuel.. (i will be changing into a bigger FMIC, walbro pump and ugraded injectors. DP/TBE/CatDel are arleady replaced..)

My searches have failed to find out the difference between the Garett30 and the 50Trim Turbo kits.. My preference goes to SBR's G30-Kit due to the fact that they will flash my ECU by-Mail for the purpose (I am in Dubai and would not like to flash my ECU locally, Mail-in is my only option).

I am not looking for the extreme power'n'torque, as much as i would want to move to the lower 400hp/400tq figures!

Sorry for the newbie question, but any comment and recommendations are sure welcome and helpful for the project..

IMHO do yourself a favor and get an AMS, Buschur or Shearer kit. I'm sure Buschur or AMS could work something out with a mail flash for it. Shearer has a great group buy deal going right now for a 50 or the 30r https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=224410.
Personally I would go with a Buschur kit with their cast manifold, simply because the price is the best and the manifold is bulletproof and a tubular one isn't as great of an advantage on a smaller turbo like you want. But you can't go wrong with those 3.

Well designed tubular manifolds like Shearer makes are always more efficient than a cast short runner manifold. The only "advantage" that a cast manifold has is longevity, which is a non-issue with a Shearer manifold, because he offers a LIFETIME guarantee. I understand that he'd never had a request to honor it, because his manifolds don't break. :)

Theres been so much negative talk about SBR's turbo kits I would stay FAR FAR away from them. Go with the proven names like others have mentioned, AMS, Buschur, Shearer. Im sure Buschur could flash you as well.

well u cant go wrong going with the 3 top choices mentioned above. there had been reported issues with fitment on the sbr kit , but i had just installed mine over the weekend and it dropped right in fully assembled, manifold, turbo, wastegate with dumptube, and o2housing all assembled. now me and a close friend are currently running the sbr 30r kit i have yet to be tuned hopefully real soon by dave buschur, but my friend had put down 451whp/398lb.ft on a dynapack ,he made +120whp over his previous stock turbo graph

Given the 95 RON fuel, and the fact that you have a IX, you probably can't go wrong with a kit like the AMS 50-Trim. The mail-in flash can be handled by any of the guys like JESTR, DYNOFLASH, or AMS themselves.

Also, I'd compare and consider the Buschur kit as a viable alternative to the AMS kit, before making a final decision. IMO, I would do a 3076/3037 before I would do a 3071, as someday you might want a bit more power and either of these larger turbos would let you scoot up to around 500+ with the addition of an Alky kit.

if u get dual ball bearing 50trim there shouldn't be much spool or power differences.
The GT turbos are better at higher psi and on race gas.

When you compare the 50 Trims to the GT-Series turbos, you are comparing old technology to newer, cutting edge turbocharger design. I'll have to eat my hat. After reading some comparative threads....I think you'll reach the same conclusion. Do a thorough search before making your purchase.

I would talk to someone like Geoff at Full Race before deciding. They make the very best manifolds and he knows one heck of a lot about the GT-series turbos and how they are superior to the older technology 50-Trim hybrids. I'll eat my hat and keep my yap shut. I would never now buy a 50-Trim instead of a GT-Series dual BB turbo.

Well the 3076 should technically be able to make more power (about 20whp more) however, I dont ever recall seeing on make that, so the 2 are VERY similar, but I would choose the 50 trim.
