Full-Race ProStock Turbo Manifold
This arrived yesterday...
http://www.truegentleman.com/cinserra/frmanifold1.jpg http://www.truegentleman.com/cinserra/frmanifold2.jpg http://www.truegentleman.com/cinserra/frmanifold4.jpg It is truely a piece of art! Now, I need your help! I am trying to decide if I should have the manifold Swain-Tech White Lightning coated. My main concern is corrosion of the manifold and thermal control. Any opinions are greatly appreciated. EDIT: Picture of the manifold Swain-Tech White Lightning coated... http://www.truegentleman.com/cinserr...lightning1.jpg 12/23/2006 - Installed: http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/9045/mani1dg7.jpg http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/6184/mani2bn1.jpg -Carl |
and truly a waste of money (15whp @ $1,000.00?).....but thats my .02 :)
I would check with full-race and see what wont void there warranty. Some places wont hold a warranty on modified items (coated, wraped, etc).....The last thing you want is to void a warranty on such an expensive piece, if it cracks they wont replace it.... |

most ceramic coatings are good for corrosion resistance, but they're just too thin to do much thermally. On the other hand, Swain Tech White Lightning is .015" thick vs. .002" that most of the ceramics are, and the White Lightning will out perform the other ceramics if heat retention is important to you. It looks good new, but it will yellow on you over time, and don't touch it with dirty hands, you can't get it clean after that.
Most people here stay away from wrapping their manifolds (I have mine wrapped). I think they're under the misconception that that huge whole in the middle of the hood is going to cause thermal shock when it rains by soaking the wrapping, but in actuality the wrapping acts as a thermal barrier (imagine that) and smooths out the rapid skin temperature changes that come with cold water on hot steel, and stresses to the manifold. Wrapping is butt ugly comparitively speaking, but wins the thermal control race by a land slide. |
damn, a thousand rocks for that?

Beautiful piece... I'm planning on getting this mani also. My question is why did you get it? Unless your sig just isn't updated, there's more (and cheaper) power to be had elsewhere.

Sorry OT. i have one for sale!!

Well, I expected some negative comments but thanks for your feedback guys. As of now, my modifications are listed in my signature. I am planning on laying down the groundwork before I go ahead and get the Forge MBC and EcuTek Full Tune. (Turbo Manifold, WORKS ABM, Works 70mm DP, etc.) Do it right, or do it twice. I don't mind spending the money on this manifold because I will never have to worry about cracking like others do with cheaper manifolds. So you are aware, I didn't pay $1000 dollars. Retail isn't even that high...
