how's everyone maintaining their evos?
 

The maintenance manual that was included says that the first oil change is at 5000 miles (for the regular driving style.) Is everybody following by that manual? I usually changed my oil for my Accord every 3000 miles. Any inputs?

mitsubishi says to stick to their schedule. i think their schedule is a bunch of crap and am gonna change my oil soon at like 3300 miles cuz its black as nights. i shoulda changed it earlier. their schedule doesnt reflect any kind of special treatment the car needs. i think it definitely should get an oil change every 2500 miles.

i changed the oil at 700 miles.. seperate from my pit pass. im going to change again at 3,750 then every 3750 miles after that (as per pit pass)

plus all the other junk they do included with pitpass

u only need to change your oil around 4500.... 5000 is the MAX .. u shouldnt go over 5000.... there is no need to change your oil so quickly ... its synthetic.. its meant to be in there for a while... your just wasting your money... it doesnt hurt your car any

I'm just over 1000 miles and I'm planning to have Mitsu do a lube job after hearing some of the stories about people finding metal particles in their oil and other post-break-in joys.

First change @ 1k and every 3k thereafter.

I always change mine at 3500 miles religiously. I have had 11 turbo cars using that schedule, with synthetic oil, and with zero issues with any of them. I just did the my first oil change and tire rotation about a week ago....piece of cake!

Well the rotation is a little bit of a hassel, but remember if you do the rotation you can take the opportunity to detail the brake calipers, inspect closely for any break or suspension wear issues, and also clean the brake dust and gunk off of the inside of your rims.

The dealership will just rotate the wheels and tires and thats it! Why not make your effort count! {thumbup}

my first oil change will be after 600 miles, after that every 3000 miles. my tune up and rotate tires will be every 15,000 miles. {thumbup} car wash will be every 2 weeks.:D

About to change oil at 1500 then 3500 after that.

changed mine at five hundred from now on it will be every three thousand and ill also rotate the tires every three and clean the wheels and brakes while they are off. its nice to have a hoist.:D

i change oil evey 3000 miles

synthetic should be changed the same as regular oil. It has more of a degreasing property and gets dirtier quicker.
You chage oil because it get's dirty and loses it's additives not because it breaks down.

I could be wrong but the reason you change oil at 3000 miles with conventional oil is due to heat and impurities that develop in the oil. Syntheic holds up to heat much better than conventional oil and develops fewer impurities over time. I don't believe syntheic gets any "dirtier".

If people feel better changing at 3000 that's up to them. It can't hurt to do it.

Oil actually improves it's properties over time but the fact that it gets contaminated is the reason you need to change. The reason why a engine with Mobil1 is so clean is the cleaning properties of the oil stripping away the dirt. No manufacturer says you can leave it in longer, well at least the only one that matters doesn't. :lol:
