Me and My Tilton love hate relationship

I just wanted to give ya guys some feedback on the frustrations ive gone thru with my Tilon carbon clutch.

Positives:
1) I can no lift shift
2) Transmission syncros love it
3) Will take beating from 4wheel burnouts and lots of slippage off the line.
4) There are no springs so you wont pop them out from fast shifting and high rpms
5) The plates are 7.25" in size so it allows you to shift fast and less inertia on the transmission.

Cons:
1) This is not a daily driver clutch! It was made for racing period:thumbup:
2) Do not hot lap the car after each drag race give it some time to cool down.

I did heat the clutch up so hot that i melted the rear main seal and boiled the plating off the pressure plate. I also turned the input shaft on my transmission black and blue! So we put in the evo 9 first gear and input shaft. Tilton said they had only seen on of there clutches do that and it was in a Baja sand truck stuck in the sand. Also all the guys at Tilton were awesome to deal with and took care of everything i asked for plus ship me the clutch overnight so we could race this last weekend:thumbup:

HAahahahah, same with me. How many launches are you getting at the track in between rebuilds?

i was kidding ;-) 100 still sounds cheaper than i would expect considering thats probably a 70k-100k investment (aka money pit)

Cheers!

I guess the $200.00 rebuilds were 1990's pricing?

Theres got to be some sort of better clutch option than doing that nonsense.

This is one avenue that seems the saying "You have to pay to play" comes into effect. Most will agree that the Tilton twin is the best shifting clutch out there with life expectancy being shorter than a Triple Exedy if the clip stays on....which doesn't cost money, but costs time or labor.

The jury is out on this one I would love to see more posts by the people who drag these setups or drag/street them.

Good video on your car BTW OT: I've always been a Ed Herman fan.

theres a tilton ceremetallic with an upgraded pressure plate that is rated at 840 lbs of tq and its under 2000$. We have 3 on order right now going on PT6776 cars so we'll see how those hold up

I hated my tilton ceremetallic on my bseries honda.

I wore the splines out very quickly, only pushing around 360hp.
