Transmission know it all's.....
 
NO THIS ISNT A STOCK TRANNY. IT HAS BEEN REBUILT AND ONLY HAS A COUPLE THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND IT IS GRINDING ALL OVER AGAIN. I NEED INFO ON WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING THIS.

In need of good info to my delima. I know there are a bunch of shops on here and i know Buschur knows their stuff. Any help from any of you guys would be greatly appreciated.

what fluid did they put in it?

try changing the fluid with pennzoil syncromesh.

the symptoms your describing could be caused by a clutch that is failing to fully disengage. although its unlikely that it would only happen in one gearset/ gear change....

if is simply not disengaging enough these would be places to look.....

try bleeding the clutch hydraulic line.

when you put in the new trans did you replace the TOB(throw out bearing)? also, how was the wear on the tips of the fork & the shaft it pivots on?was there any wobble or looseness in the fork itself?

is your slave cylinder attached securly?

have you tried adjusting the turnbucke on the clutch pedal?

Does it grind all the time you shift regardless of RPM? or does it happen only @ higher RPMs? ... Something is definately going on that is stressing/wearing your 4-5 synchros ...

only at high rpm's. I just cant figure out what might be causing all the stress.

These are all very good suggestions and the shop checked everything out for me when i took it in. But some of these suggetions would be happening to every gear not just 5th. There is something going on with that syncro.

If you have a pretty hard clutch. The tranny bolts can back out sometimes, causing this. I know of a couple DSM owners that have had this exact same symptom

Which tranny bolts??

The ones that hold it to the block??

EDIT: I didn't see that it was 5th gear grinding again. What fluid are you using? Pennzoil Synchromesh or BG Synchroshift II has been known to get rid of the 5th gear grind, use it.

if 5th gear is grinding i dought theres no turning back fith gear grinding at high rpm shifting does it happen when you shift it quickly or all the time. as for tranns bolts backing out dought this one too might happen to dsm's but evos are a pull type clutch not push type unless he has a tilton or ats or converted it to any other push type clutchs. shepherdracing is the place to send it for a rebuild he has the most experience with these issues he knows the trics to the evo transmissions etc.

This shop told me they did the same job as shep. They sent one of there tranny's off to shep to get rebuilt and then pulled it apart when it got back. They said it was all the upgraded **** that mitsu put out. They did the same rebuild to my tranny. BTW the grinding happens at high rpm if i shift real quick.

I used bg syncroshift to my stock tranny to get rid of it and that **** didnt work. I know have a rebuilt tranny with very few miles on it to be doing this. Apparently there is something else going on. Im sure its not as simple as the fluid. Thanks though.
