New Clutch Recommedation

After almost 44k miles my clutch has finally started slipping, and I'm going to replace it in a few weeks. My mods are listed in my sig, but my future plans are to go to the Green turbo in the summer. I'm looking for a clutch that is not going to break the bank either. I know that the exedy twin Hd is amazing but I can't spend 1700 on a clutch. Was looking into the ACT clutch, any other recommedations?

I was thinking of the ACT for my upgrade as well.

i jus underwent the same decision making process that you are going through. My suggestion is, if possible, save up and get the exedy twin disk or possibly a cusco twin disk (they're made by exedy).

u could try searching. ur options are unlimited.
u could look at this one since ur not making much power:

u will either need to resurface ur flywheel or get this 1:

here's are different brands:

http://www.lancershop.com/customer/p...5&cat=6&page=1

i would highly recommend u get the strongest clutch u can afford. example, here is what i use & my power is not much higher than yours at 324whp/368tq spiking 30psi w/out cams:

remember, u get what u pay for...

You are going in the right direction by planning out your future mods before the clutch purchase, but keep in mind, there's an argument for every action you choose for both sides. If you choose to go with an ACT clutch (which will have no problems holding the power you plan to make), you will save money on the parts and have something reliable/problem free pending install. The only downside I can think of in your situation is the pedal pressure MIGHT be a bit firm for you initially. ACT clutches (depending on the disc you get) tend to chatter more then a twin plate kit. You can go with a Exedy/Cusco twin, but you are spending much more money, but getting a stronger clutch kit. The pedal feel might be a bit lighter, but if you are on a budget, it's not that's justifiable.

At this rate, either way will work for you, the ACT kits are great, we use them all day for daily drivers and road race/auto-x cars. If you have the money, go with a twin disc, if you don't, go ACT, simple as that.

ACT is the way to go

Well my clutch is shot and I am about a few days away from buying my clutch kit. I am heavily geared towards the ACT-HDSS. Full Function, would you say this disc chatters? This I would like to avoid. I too am on a budget and cannot afford to go the Exedy Twin Disk route, but would if I could.

Looks like ACT it is for me. I just want a little more info on this chattering, Full Function *cough cough*, if you don't mind.

Thanks....{thumbup}

EDIT: I plan on resurfacing my flywheel instead of going with a lighter flywheel. Is this OK?

Save your money and get an Exedy twin.

I have the ACT XTSS with the street disk, there is NO clutch noise or chatter at all, very smooth engagement...perfect clutch for daily driver!

This is 100% correct. I would, if I were you, consider buying the flywheel at the same time. You can resurface the factory one, but it's just so much better to get the ACT flywheel. You'll save on weight (less moving mass), headache of running to and from a machine shop for the flywheel, and they hold up great.

Again, if you are ON A BUDGET AND NOT MAKING OR PLANNING ON MAKING HUGE POWER, the twin plates are just overkill. BUT if you do drag race, then I'd either make sure you let the ACT cool down between runs or buy a twin plate. But if it's just for normal street driving or the occasional sprint, ACT all the way.

Cant go wrong with ACT!!!!!!

SlowSportSedan Jan 3, 2008 02:34 PM

do you plan on racing more?

if the stocker lasted you 44k i would just stick with it... pretty nice clutch and theyre cheap...

As mentioned by Full Function and other's the street disc should offer you smooth engagement just like the factory disc. You'll typically get chatter using one of our puck style discs.
