High HP MR's

 I want some help deciding what to do with my car....cant decide what to do with the transmission situation, either A have it built or B swap it for a built 5-speed(cost is the issue:crap: ), but i was wondering if any 400+hp MR owners could post up what youre running and how its working out for you. Thanks:mitsu:

I wouldn't go over 450 on the MR tranny.. 400 was perfect for me. no issues.. over that.. you will break it.. even at 400 .. im sure you can break it since.. it is only rated for stock hp/tq.. which is pushing it says some people..

F**k my life!! I really dont want to have to put a five speed in it as thats very costly..now when you say 450 do you mean built?

EVOLV3D Jul 17, 2008 01:07 AM

Anyone else?

I dont think the gearbox will fail due to the additional power. i think it only depends on how you treat the car. If you launch hard and shift quickly without lifting the throttle and so on then you are asking for trouble.

I am running a somewhat high horsepower MR. 430 hp 400 tq on a mustang dyno. My map needs to be tweeked a lil bit more though. Im running a buschur cast 3065 with methanol.

Hahahahahaha

I told you!

Bunni34 Jul 17, 2008 05:17 AM

had a friend who ran over 450hp in his mr. He did update the clutch and what not. Never had a tranz issue after that, but ended up blowing his motor. Never got the jist on how but he's got the X now.

Lucky for me my GF bought the ix 5 speed!!

I've been running 450+whp on my MR for over 2 years now, never had a single problem with the car, or the trans.

I did change the clutch out for a 4 puck, since the stock one wasn't doing so well. I ran the stock clutch for about 15k with the power above.

High horsepower is not the problem.

When my MR is done, I should be close to 450whp on DTM mustang dyno.

I don't plan to road race, so I'll see how the trans holds up.

From what I've read Its more about what your doing with it. The first-second gears are supposedly beefier but third and fourth are supposed to be narrower and dont hold up to heat as well .. I.E. lapping days ,, so the high horsepower shouldnt have as much affect on your mr tranny then would beating the piss out of it at Road America.

I'm pretty sure its 4th and 5th that are thinner.

1,2, and 3rd are beefier.

Warrtalon Jul 17, 2008 11:27 AM

1, 2, and 3 are beefy - stronger than the 5spd. 4-5-6 are tiny with tiny teeth. Yes, flywheel torque is what is important - not HP - as well as sustained heat.
