4g64 W/evo head head gasket

hi guys, i am doing a 4g64 STD bore block W/evo 7 head project, but all i need is head gasket for this setup, i think it will need bigger 87mm custom head gasket to use with that evo head, so is there any place to get this product? someone said the only way is cometic custom evo 8 87mm HG, but i cannot find it, is there anyway i can find it (in stock would be awesome), thank you

Contact Chris @ No limit motorsport and tell him exactly what you are doing. He is really good about getting odd stuff (not that this is that odd) and has great prices and he is a vendor on here. The number to No Limit is 866-381-4618 and they are located in Medford, NY. I hope this helps.

it seems it will take a month to get custom one from Cometic, guys any place with in stock? actually can i use 86mm? no right?

redboosted05 Sep 16, 2008 12:57 PM

dont use cometic!

bab090 Sep 16, 2008 07:03 PM

so what is other than Cometic, thank you

You may also want to think about larger head studs, as 4G64 blocks like to blow their gaskets with a lot of boost. RRE now puts 1/2" headstuds in all their 4G64 engines.

I'm doing the same thing right now...the only 87mm gasket I can find is made by Power Enterprise. Otherwise, Cometic is your other option but it must be custom made.

ok better buy power enterprise then, for the head stud, is it ok to use arp head bolt? or still not enough?

This info was given to me by a very helpful tuner in the UK:

We use the HKS head gasket with success, the Cometic and other gaskets are very poor. The 86mm HKS gasket actually has an internal diameter of more like 86.7mm so works fine on the 4G64.
I use the HKS gasket on my 4G64 because I am on stock bore 86.5mm so it works perfect. I called A LOT of Evo shops in the states for answers, really everyone was clueless, even some shops that are supposed to know about 4G64 stuff. I got the same answers about Cometic and I was like, "Uhm isn't that gasket thought to be crap" and they were like "uhhh hmm no?".

Get the HKS if you are 4G64 it's expensive though. I got mine from Sean Ivey who got it sent to me same day, thanks Sean for great service!

ok i have ordered it, hope it will be ok on mine too, as i am on STD bore size, thanks mate,

I would call up or e-mail Road Race Engineering about what they're using for headstuds. In their experience, if you're going to be running more than 30psi (IIRC) you'll want to upgrade to 1/2" headstuds. The standard ARP's won't be enough.

I've never heard that of the 4G64 block. Maybe it's because they are using Cometic gaskets? I think I called RRE and they recommended Cometic. Maybe I'm wrong.

I ran 41 psi a few weeks ago at the track. No problems. Run 30 psi on pump. HKS gasket seems to be good. I went slightly over ARP spec on torqueing them down and used a ton of ARP assembly lube.
