My clutch job and bolt ons
Hey guys just got my fidanza 3.2 clutch kit in the mail from MAPerformace:headbang:(thanks adam!) and i have been debating on dropping the tranny and doing it on my own cuz i wanna make the change to e85 and the 500 clutch job that i wont have to pay will buy my injectors :D soooo with that said today i printed off the do it youself clutch and flywheel job off of evomoto and got started....
Everything was step by step and very easy to follow so i just got done unhooking the shifter cables and its time to jack the car up n take the wheels off to get a better look under there so i get my impact out n sockets i need then go to get my wheel lock key and it is nooo where to be found :crap:.... Last time i used it was to take my back wheels off to do a brake job and i thought i tossed it in my tool box but i guess not. I thought about beating a socket on the wheel lock and taking it off that way but i just put my tools down and ill wait till the morning n figure out what im going to do. Well i think it would be nice to tell you guys about my car n my plans other then the clutch. Once i get the trans out im sending it off to shep to take a look at it and probably do the rebuild kit because 1st and 2nd gear had a really bad whine in low rpm deceleration. I still have the stock fmic, upper icp and battery that i would like to swap out while its all apart. The car has been on 100oct for the past 2 years and i f***in love it but all the talk on the forums about e85 has got me wanting to switch and im do for a change in boost  I got a couple pictures i took from today that ill post up tomrrow and ill keep you guys updated how things go. Brandon Here is the 3.2 Fidanza that will be going in.. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch041-2.jpg Heres my car that the clutch will be going into and a few other bolt ons{thumbup} http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch025-1.jpg the only tool i need...the EvoMoto write up..haha http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch003-1.jpg |

Check your glovebox you may have the card that came with the car that tells which key it uses and has the number for mcguard on it. If that fails you may have to put it back together and take your car to a Mitsubishi dealership to figure out which wheel lock key you need. If I remember correctly they go by colors, not numbers. Then you call mcguard and order a new lock key. It's a PITA.

I have a new clutch going in today as well. I opted to pay a shop to do mine though. I might have done this myself but I'm away on business so I'm not at my house with all my tools. Good luck on this.

Okay guys here is all the pics i promised ya... These pics are what i did yesterday so im not confusing you guys and i will stick the ones from today up in a dif thread...
I first started by gettting everything out of the way.. intercooler pipes, intake, battery and its tray. i am putting tape on everything i unplug so i dont forget anything when it come time to put it back together{thumbup} http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch007-1.jpg I then uncliped the shifter cables and remove the bracket and a couple other bolts n what not... http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch009-1.jpg After that it was time to get under the car but like i said b4 i couldnt find me wheel lock key so i ended the night early and here is my parts pile from day 1..not much but its a start http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch024-1.jpg I relocated my throttle cable to just b4 i ended the night{pcfreak} the red circle is where i bolted it to the firewall http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch016-1.jpg |
Now today went a lot better! Here is what i got done...
got the front bumper off. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch032-1.jpg Got the car off the ground, front rims off and drained the trans and tranfercase.. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch038-1.jpg Could this be why my 1st and 2nd gear whine is cuz there on the drain plug... http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch039-1.jpg got the downpipe and starter outtt.... http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch044-1.jpg http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch046-1.jpg annnnd finally to end day 2 i got the driver side axle plucked outa there.. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch055-1.jpg I got class tomorrow and my 2nd class dont end till 9 o'clock so i dont think i will get much done. Prolly just pull out the passanger side axle then on wendsday go buy a puller when i get outa class at 3 and start with this lil guy http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/n...lutch056-1.jpg .....the output shaft |
Nice. You're gonna have fun once you get to the rear motor mount and tob...
Tips- get LOTS of extensions, and a long, wide flathead screwdriver. |

A few tips..
There is a ground strap that will keep your engine from moving as far forward / down as it could. If you need a little more room remove it from the firewall on the top. Lower radiator hose does not have to be removed. Do not separate the ball joints (just noticed a ball joint separater on your floor). Remove the bolt clamping the lower ball joint and the control arm will come off easily without separating the ball joints. Only the airbox / MAF needs to come out, the rest of the IC piping can stay put. I noticed you already removed it but for future notice it can stay put. The bumper of course does not need to be removed to get the tranny out. On 6 speed cars lowering the steering rack will give you an extra inch to get the tranny in / out without damaging the shift paddles on top of the transmission. Do not completely remove the nuts unless you want to re-align your steering wheel. (Loosen one nut at a time and put it back on with 3 or 4 threads), this will net about an inch of drop and can make life easier. |
DO NOT SEPERATE THE TRANNY TILL YOU POP OFF THE TOB....happend to me and i dont wana remember this :(
|
Yeah that TOB is a bastard the 1st time you do it. I used a slide hammer for the T case shafts. Id really consider dropping the subframe..someone did an alternate how to and it sounds like more work but makes it so easy .......def worth thinking about
