sweet!!! {thumbup} {blob}

how much did the setup run you if you don't mind me asking?

EvoJimbo Oct 4, 2003 07:39 AM

Its good that the Power FC still retains the conviences of stock ECU like cold starts.......How much was the Power FC???? Maybe I will get this instead of the Safc.

Oh, the Power FC IS aweome. I had one on m FD and it kicked ass! Check around on some of the RX7 forums - There Datalogging software out there for it from some guys in New Zealand... Imagine that, datalogging the easiest standalone out there, imagine the insight you'll have, and the fine tuning ability... 'cause really that little plotter on the Commander is a joke.

Anyhow, congrats!

nice post and nice numbers. But imho, Power FC is too much (cost and tuning) for most people. tuning a standalone ECU is very risky, you dont have any of the safety net that is in the stock ECU. It take someone who really know what they're doing in order to run a standalone. Also, I think there are many way to get to 260HP for $1900, even much less. Are you driving your evo on a daily basis?

Great news!!! Can't wait to see it.

I just installed mine yesterday, we are going to start tuning on it today. It has all of the features that OAT-R mentions plus many others, like making the check engine light flash when knock is detected. You can set the level of knock that you get the warning, it also has other warnings that can be displayed, for example when your injectors reach say 98%.
My unit did not come with or require any additoinal sensors, it also retailed for $895, the commander is an additional $350.
There is also a FC-Datalogit option available, it is a pc interface that allows easier and more extensive tunning, data logging, and up load/down loading of maps. That will run around $300, I don't have it yet but it is on order. Apexi only allows approved tunning shops access to there tunning software, the FC-Datalogit is a way around that policy.
Once I have more time to play with it I will let you guy's know how it goes.

Very good input. 1800 way to much. Sure it does everything, but proper work needs to be known and done. I say Super AFR with EVC 5. Sure not as nice but easy to understand and adds almost as much power if not the same.

This is my simple way of doing things. If I had the knowledge and the money I would go the Apex'i Power FC route.

The regular Power-FC is plug and play, no sensors required. I am mainly road racing with the EVO so I am not trying to make really big power and I felt the more precise control provided by the MAF would be better for my application.
My guy tells me that the people who make the Datalogit say that the EVO8 version is ready, I am waiting for it to come in.

Actually I believe just the oppposite is true, the Power-FC comes with all of the stock correction maps and safety factors. They appear to be initially set to the factory values. I think that properly adjusting your maps and correction factors to work with your modifications is much safer than trying lie and fool the stock computer into doing something it was never designed to do.

When you start to lie to the stock ECU much of your safety net goes out the window. It simply cannot correct for problems it does not know about. With this type of system you have an incredible amount of flexability to maintain your safety corrections.

Good info..
Will be good see some dyno numbers with the Apexi on Silver Surfer car. : ) We make about the same power lvl. Will give me an idea what to look for. :)

I hope to have my Apexi standalone sometimes in the next couple of weeks.

MZM offered no support for this unit at all. Charged me for a tune that I never got!

Heh, I bought in Japan new Power FC + FC commander $800+$300=$1100 to LancerEvo6. But I did not find Power FC for EVO8
