autocross turbo?

I have a question and if its a stupid question im sorry. I recently started autocrossing and i like it, but i have an opportunity to get a 37r kit cheap (i would eventually change it to a 6262) but my question is, are these turbos good to enjoy the car for autocross? I love drag racing and i would like to make really good power with it, but could i still autocross the car or are the turbos too laggy and big for the sport?

yeah
its pretty laggy
but depends on what kind of track u are racing in, the important part is to let the rev stay at its comfortable powerband to fully utilize the turbo
but i would recommend the 35R

to much lag

Def. not an auto-x turbo.

you'll get smoked by everything

Get an FP white for auto-x

when i use to autox x i would leave in first gear and never break. was ALWAYS in power band.

Thanks for the replies everyone but what about a 6262? How would that perform seeing the spool time is earlier? And these and these turbos are the ball bearing ones.

the auto-x's around here usually get into 3rd gear at some point but mostly high rpm in 2nd..some of the turns are actual hairpins at the end of a 65mph straight area with a tiny space for turn around which is difficult with the poor turning radius forcing you to hit the brakes to get into first :(.. i think that anything much larger than stock is going to be very difficult to auto-x to be honest.

I would recommend staying away from anything that doesn't bolt to the stock exhaust manifold for autocrossing. So stock turbo would be good and you have it, then the green, red or a BBK.

Better to ask than to find out the hard way, as people often do!

I don't know about your car, but on the Evo X the stock turbo is actually kinda lame for autocross. The response isn't as quick as I'd like, and I believe all Evolution turbos are TD05...All the same size turbine housing, but with slightly different inducer, exducer, turbine and compressor trim, etc.

Any bigger turbo could kill the car for autocross. You might want to look for a ball-bearing turbo the exact same size as stock, and make sure it fits your stock exhaust manifold. The stock twin-scroll entry is there to reduce turbo lag.

If by "37r" you mean "Garrett GT37R", well...I think the GT30 is at least as big as your stock turbo, a GT35 is so big you can't help but have lag and driveability issues, and a GT37 is for dyno queens.

If you want top-end power, you might want to research all the ways to squeeze power out of a stock turbo. I've been researching for a while, and I'm still looking for info on the autocross Street-Mod Evos. The best info I have so far is an old issue of Grassroots Motorsports where they wrote about Mark Daddio's Evo VIII RS. Apparently, he used a turbo from a Tommi Makinen edition, and made 368hp, 362ft-lbs at the wheels. (But, that doesn't help me with my Evo X :()

we just dont have big enough parking areas to hit 65 then have enough time to slow down.

think fastest we get is is 45mph

BluEvo210 Jun 14, 2009 08:02 PM

45mph? You'd still have to go to 2nd gear, wouldn't you?
Or, are you revving it past redline?

Are there any other Evo's at these events? Or DSMs? Are they all staying in 1st gear like you?
