Help identify these evo 8 cams!

2 Attachment(s)
These are some cams from my friends engine in his evo 8 and he thought they were HKS 272's but upon removing them they were not, We know they are aftermarket and they are most likely mild 272's being they were used with stock valve springs.

The only marking on them are the number 2 on both intake and exhaust cams so this is all we have to go on as of now.

Gsc maybe?

For $25-$50, any cam shop with a Cam Doctor can tell you the exact specs. In my experience, even if you have specs stamped on a cam, the fact that they can be reground means you should always have them checked. Well worth the $.

I would like to find out the brand as well before I were to take that step and pay money to have that done, If they were some crappy cam like Zex or buddy club I would rather throw them in the trash.

not GSC's i have a set and they do not look like that

xspsi4 Jul 6, 2009 11:56 AM

Any other opinions?

xspsi4 Jul 7, 2009 11:52 AM

fp anyone?

xspsi4 Jul 8, 2009 05:51 PM

bump, anyone?

heel2toe Jul 8, 2009 10:06 PM

Wow this is too weird. I bought cams off this forum which were supposed to be HKS 272's What I received were cams that looked just like that however the only marking were the number 1. Bump for an answer I would really like to know bc currently im out $340 and refuse to sell them to someone else without knowing what they are. I am guessing that those cams aren't hollow correct?

xspsi4 Jul 8, 2009 11:43 PM

Yes these are not hollow,Could you post some pics? I am interested in seeing what they look like.

I have no clue what they are so I am going to make up a list of potential manufactures and start e-mailing them to see if these are theirs or not.

Here is a link to my original thread. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-identify.html

There is one closeup pic where mine has the number 1 engraved. Our cams look extremely similar and are def from the same company. Im betting that yours are just more aggressive hence the 2. Im totally down to help you on this hunt so let me know how I can be of assistance. One thing I do know is that they arent HKS as ive already spoken with them over the phone multiple times.

xspsi4 Jul 9, 2009 02:23 AM

Thanks, I will share my results when and if I can find out what they are, The funny thing is that they made 401 whp on an evo 8 with a 9 turbo and ran 11.7 1/4 mile so they work:confused:

xspsi4 Jul 9, 2009 02:49 AM

Here is a list of most of the brands out there so This will be my starting point.
There are so many:(

messuring the lift is the easiest.. grab a mic and the cam.

Here is how to messure, from the Heal of the cam to the nose (peak lift to the bottom) and subtract that number from the base circle(90 degree's from the nose).. that will give you the cam lift. multiply that number by 1.73 (Rocker Ratio) and that will give you the Valve lift.

You should see something like .425" or 10.8mm of lift for the intake and .402" or 10.2mm Exhaust.

Here is what the Intake numbers of an S2 cam are. the base circle should be close with the HKS.

Nose to Heal (1.435)
Base Circle 90* of Lobe (1.180)
Rod Ratio (1.73)
We no longer use that core, we havent in 3 years. we used that core in 2005-early06 only our 264, 272, or 280 was on that core. We also had a very small run of S1 and S2 cams on that core.

Greg thanks for chiming in. Your numbers were very helpful. When I took the cams to the machine shop the specs came out to be a little smaller.

Anyway you said that you no longer use that core. Are you saying there was a time when the GSC cams looked similar to the above pictures?
