Holset powered Evo IX
so after reading through the holset powered evo 7 thread i was very interested in the holset turbos so i did a bunch of research and with the help of revmoto and colonelfox i decided i would try it out... so rev helped me find the holset hx35w on ebay and the seller was local to me so i picked it up then bought a t3 manifold on here for 250 and got to work... all together with new oil feed and return lines and the slim fan a misc parts im into it for about 1000 bucks and it should make over 500 on e85 with a spool about that of a red
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...IMG_0046-1.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...IMG_0047-1.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0070.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0071.jpg then positioned it in the car and saw what i had to fab up which was the o2 housing... very tight squeeze betweent he turbo outlet and the ac compressor http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0072.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0074.jpg so i started to tackle the hard part first which was going to be the o2 housing... so i got some assorted bends and went to work cutting and welding heres the steps till finished housing not finished http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0079.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0080.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0081.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0082.jpg tight fit sor sure! http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...IMG_0078-1.jpg bolted up to the downpipe that i had to cut and shorten http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0092.jpg as you can see i had to get a slim fan so i made a new bracket to hold the fan and the speed controller box... http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...IMG_0086-1.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0088.jpg http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0090.jpg this turbo is only oil cooled/lubricated so i had to resirc the water lines http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...1/IMG_0091.jpg i wasnt able to get a pic of the lower pil retun line now but i went to murreys and they hooked me up with all the AN fittings i need to make a 10an retun line to fit to the factory drain plug... the upper oil supply line was an easy get at murrey also i have plenty more photos that i will be uppdating soon just have to upload them... the build is complete and the car is running great even though it is untned right now, i also had to make a new licp which i will post pics of later here is an almost finished pic to end for now http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...ntitloooed.jpg |
Interesting, ive never heard of these turbos before. Is this similar to a GT 35?
|
its the turbos off the cummings diseils if i am correct... and no its actually smaller then a 35r it actually flows a little less then a red but for the price you cant beat it
|
DO you know the exact flow rating?

that turbo is slightly larger than a gt3076r. and yes they spool up amazingly fast - but not as fast as a red.
|
thank you for chiming in!

cant find where i saw it at but is 50 something still trying to find it
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/turb...read-only.html There's a PDF on it at post #8. You should heat wrap that downpipe and put heat shielding on the a/c comp like the guy in the other holset turbo thread floating around. That's too close for comfort. That's a hot pipe I can't imagine it being any good for the A/c. |
So cool seeing Evo guys starting to become like dsmers and actually making **** for themselves rather than just buying a bunch of parts from a name brand place. GOOD FOR YOU!

The 8 blade is 56mm, which is slightly smaller than an HTA green.

dude, seriously keep the pics coming, this is awesome. and i would be interested in reading the original thread where you heard about this. a link would be great.
|
what method (there are several) are you planning on using to keep the internal gate door closed? ive been reading and i like the idea of a screw pushing up against the dood to keep it closed
|
the original thread is holset powered evo 7 and i just welded the flapper shut and ran an external wastegate... the build wasnt difficult at all i love it and it turned out very nice from my opinion!
