looks great!

thank you

That turbo isnt going to last long not using a restrictor. Also the -10 return is a bit small....
Looks good tho

I hear you on that turbo. My buddy has one on his sexy Galant VR4 all you chicago guys know who I'm talking about. It is a beast and is the loudest turbo I've ever heard. His car moves like no other. So I know yours will rock. Nice build and Keep posting up your results.

Thats completely untrue. They do not need a restrictor. People were killing them thinking they needed one.

A restrictor is recommended.
Straight from Holset: "Oil pressure of 150 kPa (20 lbf/in2) must show at the oil inlet within 3 - 4 seconds of engine firing to prevent damage to turbocharger bearing system. A flexible supply pipe is recommended. The minimum oil pressure when the engine is on load must be 210 kPa (30 lbf/in2). Maximum permissible operating pressure is 500 kPa (72 lbf/in2) although 600 kPa (88 lbf/in2) is permitted during cold start up. Under idling conditions pressure should not fall below 70 kPa (10 lbf/in2)." |
At idle the evo runs around 7. A restrictor would kill it there. At WOT I average around 60 and cruise is 50. Its also fed off the head which is a lower oressure then what is measured in the block. Any kind of restrictor would bring it below the very specs you just posted.

nice to see someone else doing a holset on an evo, I should have mine done in a month or so.{thumbup}
Is that manifold for a dsm? It looks as if the placement is not far enough off to the drivers side. |

I may be off a few PSI because I haven't really watched the guage but it's within spec (I have aggressive cams and no balance shafts) My old DSM's always had higher pressure. The evo has always been around the same with several motor changes and guage swaps over the years.

Buy it now for $330.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HX40-...Q5fAccessories Do you think this thing would be way too much lag in an evo? 72lbs/min flow. |
:confused:
The 8 blade hx40 does not flow 72lbs, they also dont have vband exhaust housings. Unless this is some sort of modified one I wouldn't trust it, especially from eBay. |

That press bent (wrinkled?) downpipe looks like it can handle less airflow then stock.. Good luck with your venture.
I'd scrap that manifold, find one that positions the turbo closer to the drivers side and one flanged for the twin scroll and get a larger better flowing o2 housing. That o2 housing is going to be a huge flow restriction as well as the turbine inlet. |
