What FMIC Should I Buy!
 

Ive been looking and looking at intercoolers and i just cant decide which one to get! my goal is to be running 550-600 whp and i live in SoCal so its pretty hot out here most of the time! any comments would help, thanks

I am in the same boat as you. The deal with me is I don't want something that is going to block the radiator; also I will be getting a better radiator as well.

Buschur for me looks mighty nice and the lower IC plumbing shows a great knowledge of flow dynamics {thumbup} Price is just icing

we have the AMS intercooler which is based on the same core they have on their 9.77@147mph 1/4 - mile EVO2 drag car!.. and it ran that in full blown summer heat!!

Once you go with the aftermarket FMIC. Are we still able to use the waterspray for the intercooler? Just wondering if its a separate assembly or does it have something to do with our stock FMIC and its integrated somehow. Im just curious to know.

Don't forget APS. Their core for the WRX is the largest available anywhere for that car and works amazingly well.

anyone think to consider the Pruven FMIC, from what i hear it's pretty big.

also, i was speaking to Jeff Hill of turbotrix about this last week. He's moving his shop right now, but he told me that as soon as they were up and running they would be dyno testing three FMIC packages from different companies to see which one made the most power on the dyno. i know that the Pruven and the Buschur setup will be tested. i'm not sure of the third. But if you guys are willing to wait, i'll definately post his results when the test is done.

I'd say Buschur if it fit without modification... since it doesn't, I'd be looking at other options. Pruven if you have the money. PWR if your on a budget. Most other fall in between.

Our intercooler still uses the stock intercooler sprayer. Actually the spray bar hits our intercooler better than the stock intercooler. Our intercooler also opens up the flow of air to the stock radiator substantially. Our intercooler comes with new lower i/c plumbing, eliminating 5 bends and 20" of plumbing from the lower pipe alone. The only modification that needs to be done to get it in the car is slight trimming of the undertray. We have templates available so you can just lay it on there, trace and trim. The trimming is pretty minor, especially where it is. You can also heat it with a heat gun like Phil did and this will allow it to go right back on without trimming it.

The cost? Only $750.

Get the one with the largest volume

I have installed Hiper-flow intercoolers on WRXs and thier FMIC is very nice. When I'm looking for a intercooler end tank size and design is what I'm shoping for more then size of core.

With any intercooler you want to really see how the air flows throw the core. If it only uses 50% of the core it's in my mind ideal.

You also might want to look at our FMIC package. Our FMIC bolts up to the stock piping, but we also have short routed SS IC piping for those who want to upgrade it.

The core will handle 600whp. The kit also enables us to make 390whp on a AWD dyno on the stock turbo.

No one can say they have done that yet. Especially on a AWD dyno with a s-afc 2 for tuning.


I can also guanrantee that you will not have a more quality kit than the one we sell. The welding done to the core is the best in the country hands down.
