Upgrading from my HKS 272's

So earlier I took off my valve cover and found a broken rocker arm which then made the cam lobe smack the lifter and bending the top of the valve and scratching up the lobe a little in the process, I don't see it why it wouldn't be saveable but with all the nonsense I hear how these are crap cams and the need to have more power I want to upgrade to something better. I'm searching but isn't helping much, what should I be looking to get? Must be RELIABLE.

Engine specs are in my thread, currently around 25-30psi but will prob be going up to mid 30's or whatever Ivey decides to do with it. Driveability comes before power, I know it depends on the tuner but I don't want something with alot of overlap so it barely idles and have crap mpg since I drove over 100 miles a day.

Thanks

My vote would be HKS 280's. They're great cams for the VIII.

kelford 272 make strong power on evo 8 or gsc

FastLearner Feb 14, 2011 08:41 PM

GSC S2s or Kelford 272s.

Yes the Kelford 272 's with the GSC no tick lifters.
These cams made 40whp more over the HKS 272's, with a similar setup up.

make sure you get the NEW gsc s2 and not old.. the new ones are bigger then kelford 272

How can you tell? Would this be the new S2?

for a daily, I'd get GSC S1. tons of torque w/ wide power band. 350/350 w/ 9 stock turbo on dynojet. smooth as stock. prob most enjoyable cams on street, for me that is.

I had those exact HKS cams and were less than impressive but lopey as hell.

Also, had comp 280, great cams for high rpm power for drag strip. it was a blast.

you can tune most cams to not be lopey

My03evo Feb 16, 2011 01:01 AM

That's what I'm hoping, I don't want to have a lopey idle, then again mine sounded like it had stock cams in it compared to others ive heard on youtube with the same cams I have, prob because my idle was around 1200. Ivey will be tuning it so I know I'll be in good hands anyway.

I'm looking at the GSC S2 and so far Boston Motorsports has had the BEST DEAL on the cams and lifters I need
