Evo 9 boost at 15 psi ? need help or idea for problem !

Hi,

My evo 9 boost all gear at 15 psi. My setup for my turbo is a td05hr-20g
(rebuild) with a 17 psi wastgate actuator(new). My dv is a forge rs set a 20 psi (26 clic and is new). I dont see a leak for all piping and intercooler. I discovered that the hotside of the turbo is a 9.5 because the last turbo come fromon a evo 8 and i rebuild on new part. Is possible the problem is the hotside or a wasgate actuator ajustement in rod or bad wasgate actuator ? (i turn 4 tour on rod in clockside front installation)

Need help or a good idea for find the problem !

Thanks !

Hey from previous experience it sounds like your wastegate is adjusted wrong. But always do a boost leak test as you can't see a boost leak from visual inspections. The evo 8 comes with a 9.8 hotside, but i do recommend upgrading to a 10.5 hotside. If your wastegate rod easily slides on the hotside, i would turn it clockwise a few more times. Hope that helps. G/L

What are you using for boost control?

^^^ what he said, wastegate is only one part of the equation. I also dont see the point of a IX turbo with a 9.8 hotside, seems like a waste...

I use a stock boost controler. (selenoide valve)

But with the 9.8 hotside on a ix 20g turbo i lose a boost ?

not boost, but the 10.5 flows better and should spool a bit quicker....

Thanks for information ! my hotside is not the boost problem !

The hotside is not the problem. Whether your turbo is configured with a 10.5cm, or a 9.8cm turbine housing really has nothing to do with the turbo's inability to boost over 15 PSI.

Do you still have the boost pill inside the line?

Well if you get your car tuned, you will have to remove this pill in the lower left picture to achieve higher boost. It's called a restrictor pill i think.

Yep, definitely sounds like the case of the missing pill. It controls your boost. Hope that is it, it was for me when I switched hoses and forgot to put back the pill. low boost.
