Can't get engine and tranny separated.
I have the engine and transmission out of the car and... i tried to pull them apart before disengaging the throw out bearing.. is this a big no-no?
I can't seem to get it disengaged and i'm at my wits end i'm afraid and i don't know what to do. I've done some searching and would really like to not have to take the pressure plate off inside of the bellhousing and even if i did i would still need to get it off... ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, Jabu :mitsu: O :mitsu: |
Yes you need to release the throwout bearing or the trans will not separate from the engine.

Anyway does anyone have any suggestions or knowledge on this matter?? Thanks, Jabu |
I have found it easier with 2 people. Screw driver from the top and one from the bottem. Sometimes they can be a pain.

Be very patient. It will release eventually.

Took me 2 hours to get mine off last time. And thats the 2nd time I did it. It helped to use a very large craftsman screw driver that has a square rod going down to the tip. I then used a crescent wrench to help twist with more force while pushing in on the fork. You can also try to turn the engine to try a different spot on the throwout. Be sure you have it in the correct groove.

when you release the TOB push the clutch fork to engage the TOB. slip the screw driver in between the wedge collar and the TOB while tryn to hold the fork in place twist and pop it off. it sounds harder then it really is.

<<C>> CLUTCH RELEASE BEARING SEPARATION CAUTION If it is hard to turn the screwdriver (to pry off the release bearing), remove the screwdriver once and repeat the above procedure after pushing the release fork fully in the direction a two to three times. Forcibly prying can cause the release bearing to be damaged. 1. Remove the cover from the service hole in the clutch housing. 2. While pushing the release fork by hand in the direction A, insert a flap-tip screwdriver between the release bearing and the wedge collar. CAUTION Be sure to push the release fork in the direction A before inserting a screwdriver. 3. Separate the release bearing from the wedge collar by prying with the screwdriver (turning the screwdriver grip 90 °). NOTE: The release fork is forced to move fully in the direc- the wedge collar.tion B by the return spring as soon as if is separated from 22A-24 of the manual. www.evoscan.com- manuals. I never have had problems disengaging one. Installing yes, the stupid clip falls in. Also make sure you removed the stub shaft from the drivers side that connects the trans to transfer case. |
Pull the fork toward the slave cylinder and then https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...t-bearing.html

Just unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel via the fork hole. It's that much easier and will actually save time from fighting with the TOB.

Large Craftsmen Flat head screw driver +1000000
DO THIS: Push engine trans back together Remove Slave Push clutch fork towards the TOB as hard as you can then place the aforementioned LARGE FLAT HEAD between the fork and the TOB Push the the screwdriver inbetween them while slowly letting the fork back off PRESTO TOB OFF |
